Scrubbed. We'll re-evaluate this via PM and see what we can come up with.
These are all fantastic rules. One thing I would also suggest is that it kind of sucks to go somewhere where they "seat" you. It's nice to have the ability to get up, walk around, switch seats easily etc. Otherwise, you don't get to talk to everyone as much. I suppose this depends heavily upon how many people are there. I can't tell you how much I would like to be there, hang out with you all. Truly, it would be very nice to see you people. Is there a list of PAC NW Hubskiers? From the past post: who am I missing? fdsa tehstone ButterflyEffect rinx sounds_sound BLOB_CASTLE someguyfromcanada forwardslash snoodog
i'm in Southworth, WA; where the Vashon ferry ends and the Kitsap Peninsula begins. Unfortunately I can't make it to the lil'-apalooza.
The "talking to each other... nowhere loud" rule is the key rule. I couldn't care less about the location as long as that rule is met. I can understand lil wanting a view when she is visiting, but it was hardly required for our meetup with coffeesp00ns, Great place but it wasn't the most scenic. If I had known spoons did not know the city that well I may have suggested somewhere else. :)
I'm so sorry everyone fdsa, goobster, rinx, ButterflyEffect, BLOB_CASTLE -- my host, guide, and navigator has bailed out on me and I'm hesitant to find myself unescorted in Seattle. I feel very bad about this, and in spite of a kind offer of a sofa, I will turn around and head back north. The meetup can certainly happen without me and I hope it will. HUBSKIERS should meet -- we don't have to be anonymous words on screens. We are real passionate struggling humans (most of us anyway). I know now no one will trust me -- but I know I will be back on the west coast -- possibly much more often and I will try this again. I'LL EVEN BUY THE FIRST TWO ROUNDS next time I'm back. I need to rebuild trust.
Bummer! But things happen. I've been asked to be a model for a line of beard oil and mustache wax, and the photoshoot is Saturday afternoon ... and might interfere with the beginning of our meetup. So life is full of unexpected stuff. I say the rest of us should still go - I've never been to Maggie Bluffs! - and have a drink in your honor. "Here's to lil for getting us together! May we meet her in person some day!"
lil goobster rinx fdsa ButterflyEffect BLOB_CASTLE cgod tehstone allheroesareaholes So far, lil is flaking, goobster is talking about flaking, and two other people have privately intimated to me that they're flaking. cgod is already out and BLOB_CASTLE is threatening to drive up from south of Portland, so with a shaky foundation and our original impetus for meeting running back over the border, I thought I'd take temperature. My mother-in-law is recuperating from surgery so I can find ample excuse not to be there. However, I can also find reason to make it happen. There's nine people on that list (ten if I'm included - if you're reading this and you didn't get shouted out, lemme know and I'll add you) and of those nine, two are "nos" and four are "probably nots." So. What do we want to do?
I'm a definite "won't be there." I'm filming a music video Saturday in Fossil, OR
...which will be posted to Hubski...riiiiiight?I'm filming a music video Saturday in Fossil, OR
Just making sure I'm still listed as a no. Whistler has been downgraded to Stevens, but still can't bail on my buddies birthday. I'll be there for Seattle meetup part 2, whenever that happens! Also thanks for cat herding. Whenever we do meet up first drink is on me.
I am feeling much less hermit-y and was planning on being there!
My guide to all things Seattle and my driver said, "Ray's is nice, good happy hour, nice view. Out of the way (Ballard)" "Maggie Bluffs: I have never been, but they certainly have a nice view of downtown, on the water, more centrally located. I'll opt for a place that is new to me, ie. Maggie Bluffs. Walk on the wild side." He sounds very hubski to me (walk on the wild side). So let's go for Maggie Bluffs and kb can totally veto me if he wants. Do they take reservations?
Maggie bluffs neither takes nor needs reservations. It's basically a hole-in-the-wall diner that happens to be under Palisade. Basically, if you own a yacht, you eat at Palisade. If you like to look at yachts, you eat at Maggie Bluffs. If you're clever, you buy dinner at Maggie Bluffs then drinks and dessert at Palisade. That's a dating trick I've been pulling since the late '90s. ALTERNATIVE SUGGESTION: What used to be Jillian's and then became something else is now Art Marble 21. http://www.yelp.com/biz/art-marble-21-seattle-2 I have not been there. It's got pool tables, booze, beer and food.
VETO AWAY dude. I'll be happy. Even Ray can get back on the table. So to speak. It will be night anyway and a view of the BIG DARK SEA with twinkling of yachts is -- meh at best. Although Seattle darkness might have a unique northwest quality. NOTE: If we make this happen, it will be my fifth hubski meetup, each one in a different city (Vancouver, Detroit, LA, Toronto, Seattle) (although I admit the Vancouver/Surrey meetup was just forwardslash and me, but still, eh? Also, I have a something planned for this meetup related to mk and thenewgreen. Only _refugee_ knows so far and she is keeping it her own witchy secret. Right ref?
I'll get back shortly with a choice between #1 and #2. Thanks kb for setting this up. Both Oregon and Vancouver are not particularly close to Seattle... so I'll have to see BLOB_CASTLE in our intermittent postcards!
Meanwhile, in a city of 2+ million, I'm the only Hubskier. Have fun, kids. :)
Jealous! I'll be 2,800 miles east of you guys. Great rule. Have fun!!3) Talking to each other and meeting each other is of the highest priority. That means nowhere loud.
The friend I was going to stay with in Seattle just had a major domestic crisis and turfed me off the sofa, or whatever it was going to be. I have a lead on another place or friend. I'll know soon. But don't make the big announcement quite yet. ... I might pm you for a hotel suggestion close to the meetup location. I'll be in touch.
Not sure I'll be able to make this one as I'll be recording a music video in Fossil, OR on Saturday and recording on an album that Sunday back in Portland. cgod might be down
Yo- did I miss a post on this? Did it occur? Who attended? Were photos taken? Never mind. I see all the flaking in th thread :( If it does go down, let me know and Hubski can pony up some modest beer money.
It sounds like Maggie Bluffs as a starting point!?
