What a strange and wonderful thing, Newgreen! I like my hands. Juggling and piano and karate and coin tricks have made them strong, flexible and coordinated. They have endured grievous wounds and Beau lines. And I have so far avoided the crippling arthritis which plagues my family. I feel my hands are an extension of my brain, and of course they are.
Thanks for this Mike. Do you have any footage of you back when you were in the circus? I'd love to see that. What about any juggling videos?
Good idea, but "Wasoxygen Plays with a Keyboard" is a long-term project. This chord is my first choke point in the not-very-threatening "Gymnopédie No. 1." The first four measures can be one-handed, though I am not ashamed to alternate. In the fifth measure, unless you have hands like francopoli, you have to coordinate left and right. In other words, even demure has to set down the smartphone he usually uses to pass the time while practicing for Carnegie Hall.
Awesome! I thought you quit the cancer and were opting for electric pneumonia.
I only have a couple a day now. Mostly during traffic or to get up from my desk. I had no problem not smoking for 17 days in Sri Lanka / Costa Rica but once I'm back in the car, it's game over.
Are you asking me if I am left-handed? If so, the answer is "no." You? Edit: if you're asking me because I took a photo of my right hand, it's because at the outset I thought this would be all about hands only. I didn't want any of my "hardware" on my hand. My left hand has my watch and my wedding ring :
I have giant hands. Large gloves are tight on me and I have to use the largest size they have. For reference, from the base of my wrist, where the Radius and Ulna meet the Carpal bones to the tip of my middle finger is just shy of 10". On my Logitech G15 keyboard I can reach, one handed, from the G keys to the ";" key without trying to stretch too hard. I've only met two people in my life with hands larger than mine; one was a linebacker and one was a welder. This is an interesting thread seeing how I work for hand surgeons. It is a nice change of pace to see pictures of hands outside of a medical setting.
Never thought of my hands as "veiny". -thanks for the new insecurity :)
At least you aren't super pale like me - when I'm cold, all the veins in my hand are like blue and purple and it looks fucking awful.
This thread is awesome and reminds me of a Mythbusters episode where they tested the phrase "know it as well as the back of my hand" by having people pick a photo of their hand out of a dozen of photos on a wall with the same lighting and positioning. I remember being shocked at the high numbers of folks who immediately recognized their hand. I'm not sure I've ever looked at the back of my hand with any concentration but I guess it's extremely familiar.
Hey fnord, welcome to Hubski. Have you lost weight? I only ask because it looks like that ring could fall off you finger at any moment :)
My hands probably hadn't played tennis in six months but tonight they played in preparation of the impending Vancouver Open featuring a bout between sounds_sound and myself.
Six months without play? Nice giveaway there. I'm tuned up and ready to drop the hammer on you. Be ready for a lot of love. As in a lot of 0's. :)
