Everyone's got that absurd daydream.
A few weeks ago I envisioned myself building some sort of international radio tower in the middle of Antarctica.
There is literally zero chance of this happening.
That would be part if why I'd want to be a "Rock Star". Payed to:
1. Travel
2. Make music
3. Tour with musicians you look up to
4. Mingle with creative types from all of the arts 5. Party.
I have a friend who did just that for two years. He was working with some sort of travel agency as an editor of their website or some such nonsense (his words, more or less). Part of the benefits entailed getting free plane tickets every once in a while. He got to go all over Western Europe, Mongolia, Argentina. The job also required him to travel all over the States. I thought it sounded totally awesome, but he got really, really sick of traveling and quit. Grass is always greener, I guess...
one of my friends is trying to teach english in japan. he's been there before and it isn't as much travel, but he would essentially be paid to live and teach in another country.
I know a lot of people who did this. Recently two of my friends came back from S. Korea. They were there a full year, had a blast. Had more fun in Thailand though, where they spent 2 months before they came home. I have a friend who is in China right now teaching english. He's actually got a blog going if you wanna check it out. http://whiteguyinshanghai.weebly.com/1/post/2013/03/some-hig...
Opening a dive shop somewhere in the Pacific with a restaurant and hotel attached close to a landmass populated with beautiful women and an abundance of great terrain to ride motorcycles on. Plenty of time to go fishing and do whatever writing I feel like and of course lots of sun, sand and waves.
To have an old time exploration adventure a la one of the guys in the Royal Geographical Society, or Howard Carter. I feel like adventures like that just don't happen any more. And a somewhat logical offshoot of that- I want to be alive to see us send an expedition out to another earth-like world. Or live long enough to see us confirm the existence of extra-terrestrial life (doesn't have to be intelligent). Or hell, I'll settle for seeing us mine asteroids. That's more attainable, supposedly.
Happy to hear :) Although, I'm sure you've had that one, completely out-of-left-field fantasy that wasn't necessarily something you wanted or desired, it was just something that popped up. I have no desire to start a radio tower in Antarctica...unless...*handonchin
Ya know, I saw him and Bus Driver Saturday night, it was insane. They were gonna play outside but it rained so we had to move in this shitty little brewhouse and a bunch of people got turned away at the door, but he still destroyed. They cut a guy's hair on stage for some reason.
me too. Even though i'm afraid of flying and airplanes, making it into space would be amazing. Chris Hadfield, the astronaut in the ISS, tweets from space and all of his pictures are breathtaking.
I take it so much for granted, but I have that second part. My metabolism is ridiculously high, and I need an entire 16 inch pizza to fill me up for dinner. In the first world? It's a blessing. I can take advantage of restaurants (assuming, my broke student wallet can afford it) and fine food all I want. Try this, try that. "I heard both these entrees are the defining points of your restaurant.. hell I'll get both!" (again, assuming I just got paid). If I ever got stranded from a plane crash/shipwreck? Damn I'm screwed. My friends always say, because of my calorie consumption, I'd be the first to die and the first they'd eat.
Becoming a trophy husband. In my ideal world I'd golf in the morning, lunch, nap in the early afternoon, have some free time for whatever, dinner, boozing. Wash, rinse, repeat.
I'm curious. Is there a lot of outside pressure on you to stay skinny these days? I kinda feel like I could just get super fat right now and no one would really be able to do anything about it.
well unless staying skinny is part of your plan to score that rich woman, then i say get on with it man. live that dream!
To kill all cybernetic immortals, and preserve death as the one sure thing in life. Also, to become an animator.
Kinda along the same lines as BrainBurner, but I want to be a stay at home Dad. I'd love my kids, and my gf is almost certainly going to make more money than me. I could work part time out of my house, and just be a dad the rest of the time. I want at least 5 little people. I don't really know how plausible it is.
I'm probably too late to the thread for anybody to see this, but here's mine: I want to own 2 small businesses next door to each other: one is an arcade that has monthly Mario Kart/SSB/Goldeneye/other-retro-game tournaments, and a small theater in the back where I'd play old and nerdy movies for a cheap price. The second business is a cat cafe with coffee, tea, and ice cream. I haven't given in to the thought of this being a completely far-fetched dream yet.
Come to Detroit, and hook up with the Cass City Cinema! Its an abandoned high school that now plays movies in the old theater/auditorium. The rest of the place is gathering dust, as far as I know. Would be perfect for an arcade :)
Allergic to cats, but ill see you in the arcade. Will there be beer?
My previous far-fetched dream was being a professional game developer. Then I realized that while it's really hard it's far from as implausible as building yourself an Antarctic radio tower. So that's actually part of my attainable dreams list - my current far-fetched dream involves cybernetics, either getting or creating them. Specifically I'd like cyber-eyes the best, but I'd settle for cyber-limbs instead.
I'm glad that you can be bargained with about what part of your body goes cyber.
If it's an improvement over normal human biology, I can probably learn to live with it.
I used to have far-fetched dreams, but now my dreams are more realistic. I used to dream of being able to manipulate the world with merely my computer skills (I blame OSC), now I dream of getting paid to work on free and open source software.
