Soo hubski, do you play board games? If yes, which are your favourites?
Believe it or not, I played risk for the first time a few nights ago. It was a helluva lot of fun.
Not long ago two friends and myself played lord of the rings risk. Long story short - I played with mordor-style pieces and owned the role-play. I did get lucky dice rolls, which made it all the more possible to own mordor - and virtually do what sauron did. It was so fun playing the bad guy. Which normally I am opposed to ;)
Personally, my favourites are games you play with a big group of people - my all-time favourite "board" game is werewolf. Say you have ten people. Two or three of them would be werewolves, while the others are innocent villagers. Each turn the werewolves cull another villager, and the villager have to vote to execute somebody. Of course, since the wolves pretend they're villagers themselves they try to throw a spanner into the works. There's some special villagers that can gain information on who is a wolf and who isn't, but the meat of the game is in the execution discussion, which are always hilarious. Since I'm usually the game master it's also the best way I know of learning people's names ;)
This is the best game experience I've ever had! Discovered it on a youth exchange in Germany some years ago and it's just so much fun. I really enjoy that it's very inclusive and that so many people can join. The discussions and accusing your friends is the funniest part. :D Definitely good for those late summer nights. Can't wait to play it again :)
I never have time to play it anymore, but Diplomacy is in my top 3 gaming experiences of all time. If you have the people and the time, it's absolutely a blast. Actually, anyone wanna pick up an online game over the summer? flagamuffin Quatrarius kleinbl00 nowaypablo
That looks awesome. I think I've heard of it but have never played; by way of comparison, this is the best thing that was ever written for Mac and I've spent some serious time trying to find something similar so count me in. I'll warn you, my schedule is weird.
The fun thing about Diplomacy is that (for the most part) the players don't even have to be playing at the same time. It works really well with long turn lengths, so you just have to submit a move every 24 hours or something. I think. Bear in mind I haven't played in probably 4 years now? Jesus, it's been way longer than it seemed like. 6th grade was a long time ago.I'll warn you, my schedule is weird.
I'm off the grid from July to mid August :( but if a game is organized before or after that time, I vote Civ V!
I remember somebody mentioned a Diplomacy game a while ago on here, but that never came to anything. I can be up for whatever you pick, probably.
Yep! - Carcossone is awesome - Settlers of Catan is always a favorite - I'm quite fond King of Tokyo, though it can often get repetitive - Avalon and all Mafia-type games are very good fun with the right people - Codenames and Dixit are pretty awesome, though you have to get pretty creative with some of the clues haha - I'm currently stuck in a 6+ hour long game of Game of Thrones (the diplomacy type board game version, that is) and that is absolutely amazing. - Recently played Sanguosha and that's fucking awesome - a fun card game based off of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, pretty similar to BANG!
Carcassone is a really fun game. My friend owns a copy and we play all the time. I'm not very good at it... I like The Great Museum Caper too. It's always fun pulling off a successful art heist. I have a friend who has just recently gotten very into Backgammon. My grandfather tried to get me interested years and years ago to no avail. Actually a really fun game!
I play so many games. Right now, the regulars I play are: - Secret Hitler - My current favorite "hidden roles" game, and a smash hit with most of my group. It does cause a lot of stress and anxiety to a few, though. - Pandemic - Very easy to get onto the table, very easy to explain, and very easy to lose right when one thinks it's going to work out well. A perennial favorite. - The Great Dalmuti - Fast and quick, casual enough for near anyone, thinky enough to slow down conversation. A good closer. - King of Tokyo - Another fun closer. The strategies are getting a little old, so I think I'm gonna pick up the Power Up! expansion, to change up the game. - Smallworld - My buddy loves this game and has all of the expansion sets, so it hits the table every couple weeks. Plays well with almost every size group, and has enough strategy to stay interesting. Additionally, my girlfriend and I play Hive and Haggis any time we're out and about. Hive especially is super quick and simple, and a real brain burner once we get into it.
Friend of mine created a board game, it's getting in some board game stores in Canada and the US. https://www.stratosgame.com/ it's got an 8.0 review from boardgamegeek too. I'm really happy for him. I've always been into Risk and Catan as well.
Love 'em! Avalon is my favorite, if you get the right people it's just a marvelous experience. I prefer to play with 7 people, which gives Merlin, Percival, Vanilla blue x2, Morgana, Mordred, and Oberon. I skip the assassin when I play, I just dislike the extra win condition. For a few less people, Tzolk'in is another great one. It's very strategic, but a little complex to set up. Once you learn the rules, it's just great though. Last recommendation, this time for two players, is Mr. Jack Pocket. You take the role of Sherlock Holmes or Mr. Jack and try to outwit each other. Fantastic game for a couple of people that's really easy to play and set up, but still very strategic.
I play Risk occasionally with friends, it's the kind of game that never ends because we don't really follow the rules. Our objective is world domination, so as soon as a player starts to have a heads up, the others are going to focus him. It's quite fun and takes all the night. I love werewolf too but I don't get the opportunity to play often. Maybe we could organise a werewolf-based Hubski. I know some communities did that in the past. I used to play one 8 years ago, Harry Potter themed and it was quite fun.
Dominion is the one I play most frequently, but Cosmic Encounter is currently my favorite. I've also got on the shelf: Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan, Shadows over Camelot, Descent: Journeys in the Dark, and HeroQuest (old Milton Bradley game that's in shreds from too much use). I really want to get my hands on Mansions of Madness, but it's never available at the store I go to. And I've just had Gloom and 7 Wonders mentioned, how good would you guys say those are? I haven't played them yet.
