hardtaco  ·  1293 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: My friend hardtaco and I are building a progressive song

Sorry for the delay, my friend! It turns out, my brain is really programmed to work on one song a month, no more and no less.

I started by asking myself, if thenewgreen finished this song by himself, what would he be LEAST likely to do with it? The answer I came up with, and thus the direction I took this, was a rhyme-centered nonsense patter song. But the rich dreamy stoner vibe is so strong in this one, I didn't want to mess with that. I will hold off on mastering it in case you want to add more. Thanks again for this delightful opportunity!

"So So"

Jason Alexander and Duran Duran are chasing Melisandre and her random band of pandas till they hand her in, and the tongue they chat or prattle or banter in isn’t Hmong because the random band of pandas are Mandarin

It’ll be so so nice

It’ll be so so nice

Santa Ana, can a man of temperamental candor pen a feminine dilemma with a gentleman of gentle manner, put a salmon in enamel and examine it and a sentimental panorama laminate

It’ll be so so nice

Little me in little Italy

It’ll be so so nice

It’ll be so so

Noncommittally, it’ll be so so

It’ll be so so nice

It’ll be so so nice

Had her in a kennel had her in a kennel had her had her had her in a kennel had her in a kennel had her had her…

It’ll be so so

It’ll be so so nice

It’ll be so so nice

Nice...is that chorus on the bass? Kind of has a New Order vibe which I am always fond of.

Wow. Good ear. It does have chorus on the bass. I remember the first time I was in a recording studio I asked the engineer if he ever used reverb on the bass and everyone laughed as if it were the most ridiculous question ever. Now, I see why but who’s to say which instrument gets effect and which doesn’t. There are no rules, right.

I am blown away. You’re right, there is no way I would have taken this in this direction. This is truly what collaboration can do. I am supremely impressed. Thank you hardtaco! Oh man, I want all of Hubski to check this out. Shoutouts to cgod, mk, steve, lil, kleinbl00, b_b, ecib, ButterflyEffect, flac, ghostoffuffle, goobster, T-Dog, flac, @CoffeeSpoons@, rezzeJ and all you other misfits. Have a listen.

I really enjoyed this. Will listen another 20 times today, I’m sure. Thank you. Love the lyrics!!!

Well, I suppose we can see how things go. It is nice to have a safety valve in case I am hit by a meteor between now and November 1.

By the way, I would love to see how the music for this song was tracked. How many different synth sounds are overlaid with each other? And what is that mysterious chomping sound at the end? It sounds like you are using the accordion without pushing any of the keys.

The phrasing is so awesome. Well done. The breathing sounds are chanting vocals I recorded through the Line6 DL4 and then ran backward and slowed down. I can’t recall how many synth lines there are. Not many. Most of what you are hearing are guitar parts ran through that DL4 and toggled between normal and backward slow time in a sort of rhythm. That’s the first sound you hear. Then just the bass, some strings, chorus and piano. I use the DL4 in everything I do. I’m obsessed with it. It’s the greatest thing I own. It’s so, so nice.
