I'm fresh off the boat in this weird, minimally-designed place and would love to get to know you guys. So I fancy to start with a question, perhaps even a challenge.
So, Hubski, a.k.a. post-reddit utopia: Who should I follow? Why should I follow you? Are you better than the other guy? Are you just meh, eh, or a tad important? Or are you truly valuable to this community? if so... how?! I want you to boast, brag, rant and pride yourself abotu everything you can possibly think of. If you feel like it, I think it would be a much better question to open up why you as a person are valuable.
Disclaimer: Yes, I know that everyone is 'valuable' to the community so to speak, especially what appears to be a quite small one like this. I'm curious to draw the egos out from the dark, so if you're the humble god of selflessness, this is your chance for catharsis!
Bonus: Why have you elected thenewgreen as your dear leader?
Try to look through the #newtohubski tag, you might find some of these posts interesting. To decide who to follow, it all depends on what you value most. Do you value interesting comments? Then follow the people that leave the comments you find the most interesting in chatter. You can follow tags if you are interested in specific subjects like music. (side note: the tag of the week is #thehumancondition). You can follow a person you find posts interesting stuff...really it's up to you. Play around until you like your feed. As for drawing egos from the dark, check this thread out:
http://hubski.com/pub?id=116482 It's a quick introduction from many frequent commenters. Nowhere near the full picture, but it's a start to knowing us all better :) Welcome
I mostly just follow a lot of people I find interesting. Which usually means either cool articles on physics and psychology, or more entertainment styled stuff like video games or music. I mostly share though, not post. I'm trying to post a bit more, in hopes of fostering discussion. But I feel that other users probably do it better. What I did when I first joined hubski was just go through the "tags" section, and look at tags that interested me. Then I'd follow users who shared stuff on those tags. From there, I'd just follow anyone that I saw that was interesting. Ideally, I think we'd want to be at a point where you'd follow people whose content you liked. But as it stands, it's mostly just the same few articles shared around the entire site (from my perspective anyway). So just follow some top users, and jump in. Also thenewgreen is a pretty cool person. I wouldn't say a leader though. nowaypablo seems to lead the discussions in what I'm interested in. And overall I'd say mk is the "leader".
Cheers! and uh_oh is right, nobody's competing. Even post in my tag if you want!
Don't follow me I am an ass. thenewgreen is not our leader he is our beloved prime minister. our real kings name is secret but his initials are m k.
Bad parenting, Bad choices, most likely Bad genes.
As a second generation immigrant, it can be quite the challenge stopping yourself from expecting more than you and your family may have the means to take. not everyone living off ramen is doing so cause its a quality meal;) yet I catch myself taking a hearty, pricey meal for granted cause everyone I know dines out on a nightly basis. Oh yes, Hubski. That too :D
I would say, and I'm just guessing, it's because excessive ego isn't particularly rewarded. For example, hubski offers a "zen" setting. Click "my settings" under your name and you'll see the "zen" option. If people become too egotistical we send them there. Here's what happens.
If you want a good alternative, try r/stevesmom, it's thenewgreen's personal sub.
Because that shit's like four years old, yo. Knock yourself out.
I owned five different versions of that thing at one point - three on VHS, two on DVD. I can quote Paul Sammon's book chapter and verse. My best buddy from Jr. High owns Oblagon, Sentury and Sentury II. And while I make a shitty Roy Batty for Halloween, My wife rawks Pris.
I responded to your PM. What I essentially said was to check out this post. That said, I would recommend checking out the badges link in the upper right hand corner and discover some of the most prized content on the site. See people that you find interesting there and follow them. It's a good way to start imo. Also, follow a hand full of tags to begin with. As your leader, I request that you send your monthly dues to a po box that I'll be PMing you.
woaah! this is pretty neat. I could get used to this. Is there much of a painting/fine art scene here? At this point, I would rather be ripped off by you than a lot of the other institutions ripping me off on a monthly basis:D thanks for the help, i like the badge concept
There's Hubski at the Museum, but it's been a bit quiet lately. Elizabeth has a Weekly Photo Challenge that is the bomb diggity.
Feel free to start your own thing :) I did start an art-related discussion a month ago (http://hubski.com/pub?id=123052) but never made it into an ongoing thing. Give me a shout out if you do start something (by surrounding the usernames with @), sounds like fun.
Instead of us telling you to who to follow, I would recommend either: A: Follow the kleinbl00 approach. B: Peruse through some posts and comments using the chatter or community pages and find users that peak your interest either through their comments or submissions. It's as simple as that. There isn't really a "better than", "more important than", or anything of the sort.
Because he's one of the founders, and good friends with MK, the guy who created Hubski and does the development. Why have you elected thenewgreen as your dear leader?
