Wow. Just when we thought the idea of Joe Biden being President of the United States couldn’t get any worse, he announces that Kamala Harris, a failed presidential candidate and a corrupt former California Attorney General, will be his running mate. First, Kamala Harris attacked Joe Biden’s racist policies (did she forget?). Next, she ends her pathetic run at President. Then, 3 months after ending her own campaign, she reluctantly endorses Biden. After that, Biden gets accused of sexual assault, so he vows to choose a woman as his VP. And now, Sleepy Joe announces Phony Kamala as his running mate. These two liberals are as far-left as they come. Between both of their terrible records, it’s obvious that this radical duo is PERFECT for each other but WRONG for America. They are WEAK on crime and want to see our cities burn, unlike President Trump and Vice President Pence who are working tirelessly to restore LAW AND ORDER. It’s going to be up to Patriots like YOU to save our Nation from that dark fate, KB. Election Day is right around the corner, and now that we know what we’re up against, I’m going to do something HUGE: For the NEXT HOUR, all contributions will be 600%-MATCHED! I want a list of all Patriots who donate in the NEXT HOUR. I know I’ll see your name at the very top.| (Not shown: bold, red, underline, highlights)KB,
The only thing Trump is actually good at is attacking. This pick makes that job so, so, so much easier for him. Hey opportunism, ideological inconsistency, history of vehemently defending the keeping of low level drug offenders locked up, and so on are going to be like shooting fish in a barrel for him. I get the sense that he feels like some much needed air just got breathed into his campaign today. Edit: I thought for sure based on Brett Stephens' Benghazi rant about Susan Rice this morning that she was definitely going to be the pick.
Ain't nobody out there going "well, I was going to vote for Biden but shit, now that Kamala Harris is on the ticket FUCK THAT" Kamala Harris is a sweetener for people who weren't going to vote at all if they had a choice between an old racist who destroyed the country or an old reformed racist who hasn't yet. Now they can pick an old reformed racist and the komintern-approved Woman of Color who picked on him for it. I actually like Kamala Harris. She was from my district in LA. People who read Brett Stephens rants? Yeah, Kamala Harris wasn't selected to make them happy.
Maybe? He might have picked someone that would get me to vote for him but that person isn't Kamala. I know, I know, I'm bigoted against prosecutors, and I think she's nothing but a sail that goes with the wind, all political opportunist with no core governing philosophy or moral north star (it's why she couldn't get any traction in the primary, people could smell that she was full of shit). There are things about her record that I think disqualify her from polite society let alone the vice presidency but they are law and order moral failures so they don't count. Joe could make some cabinet picks that would sway me but I'm pretty sure he won't announce any of his picks until after the election. Joe will do as little as possible as long as he is in the lead and if something really needs to be done they'll try their damnedest to get other people and their money to do it. Before you all start screaming at me that I have to vote for Joe, realize I live a place where my vote matters not at all in the presidential election. If you are going to give me the running up the tally to fight back when he refuses to leave office speech, tell it to your pet or a loved one because I don't give a rats ass. Joe Biden is the candidate of War and Wealth and I'd never pick him to rule shit. Ask a friend who Hilary's running mate was and they will usually go blank. I don't know if that reflects well or poorly on the Biden campaign but I think she'll be remembered. It probably doesn't mean anything at all. Kamala is a better nominee than Sara Palin or Dan Quail but Vice Presidents don't normally move the needle much in elections. She will probably be helpful to Joe, she has real world skills and experience leading big bureaucracies. She can probably hone INS back to being an calm cool and quiet immigrant disposal department. I bet she will be right at the center of suppressing the free flow of information and the harassment of journalist (she'll make old Obama proud). I don't think she'll be Dick Cheney level useful unless old Joe really has gone senile but I think she'll be a very hard working and useful member of the administration as long as she can get along with Biden's people.Ain't nobody out there going "well, I was going to vote for Biden but shit, now that Kamala Harris is on the ticket FUCK THAT"
It's hilarious to see all the glorification stories in the Times today. The whole top of the front page is stories about how amazing she is, complete with soft lit pictures of her staring off into the distance. What a fucking joke. You live in OR, but I live in MI, so I sort of have to vote for her (assuming Joe dies at some point in his term). I despise her and every other senator who railroaded Franken, but especially her because of her suspect record as AG of California. I consider this an almost worst case scenario Democrat ticket.
I ain't gonna extend much beyond "meh coulda done worse." There was a whole universe that really, really wanted Stacy Abrams for some dumb-ass reason. Let's be honest: the Democratic Party was trying to make us excited about Tim Kaine not four years ago.
It's one of three or so his camp sends out on slow news days. Yesterday they were 7/7 on "messages that don't make it out of the spam filter." They'll do things like write 1O,OOO,OOO because it looks more impressive than 10,000,000 and they know well and good that quotes mean emphasis.
I'm good with her as the VP pick. She will alienate the far left, due to her AG role. Which is good. The far left is nonsensical and ineffectual. Her experience as AG in the most populous state in the union is a deep mine of "tough on crime" stories that can be whipped out on demand to assuage the center-right that she's a Crime and Punishment champion. And her disemboweling of Biden during the debates demonstrates that she's not gonna be Biden's puppet. In short, she's not the Libs choice, but they aren't going to vote for Trump anyway. She also doesn't have a full year of Republican disinformation piled up around her (like Warren or Abrams), because they wrote her off early. Too bad she won't be debating Trump... it'd be nice to have a prosecutor on stage with him...
As a leftist, I can tell you that she alienates me pretty thoroughly. Then again, I was unlikely to vote for Biden anyway, so I guess there's no harm done (except to the extent her policies influence further policies).
By believing what I believe? So you're suggesting I should ignore my own principals in order to get a participation trophy? Meanwhile, when was the last time a center-right Dem actually won a national election? You have already abdicated your role in this election...
It's weird, because literally no one was clamoring for Harris. It's not like she had a good run in the primary and just didn't cut it. She didn't even make it to a voting contest, right? I get that he wanted to check the gender and race boxes, but how about someone who wasn't already 100% rejected by the voters? Duckworth and Rice both would have fit that bill. Really struggling to figure this one out. Maybe duckworth disqualified herself with her moronic George Washington comments and he didn't want to deal with Benghazi all over again? After my initial disappointment, I'm still gonna vote for him, but c'mon Joe. You're really straining our anyone-but-Trump credulity.
The best explanation I've heard is that she was chosen to negate any "soft on crime" attacks the Republicans could make. Not that this actually stopped them from making them, but the hope may be to pull enough centrists his way.
For some reason people know that Chicago is dirty AF but despite Hollywood making roughly eight movies per year about corrupt Los Angeles politicians, nobody has figured out what a grifting shithole California politics is. Nobody who successfully runs for dog catcher in California can survive a purity test. however, if you can get shit done in that environment it means you can survive a back room. Since her nomination I have gotten four emails from the Trump campaign calling her a radical socialist that's soft on crime. And I mean, Govtrack considers her the fourth least conservative senator in the US.She will alienate the far left, due to her AG role.
Her experience as AG in the most populous state in the union is a deep mine of "tough on crime" stories that can be whipped out on demand to assuage the center-right that she's a Crime and Punishment champion.
Some Canadian wag demonstrated that Kamala Harris would be the farthest right elected leader in Canada. I'm good with her. No leftie is going to NOT vote for Biden because of Harris. But she can definitely make inroads into the highly conservative Hispanic community, and the Mournful Right, who miss the pre-Cheney days of the Republican party.
joe biden taps kamala harris? oh no no not again but in all seriousness i don't know why it took them so long to announce this when kamala harris was always the number 1 nonhonky for the job, and they even said they were going to pick a black woman since the last debate right? the huge search resulting in the original nm1 is suspicious. feels like they were trying to weasel their way out of the "woman vp" promise at least she's not tim kaine 2: 'literally who'galoo
Trump/Pence would threaten stamp allotments more than Biden/Harris. Edit: My voting habits have remained pretty consistent as my fortunes have changed over time. That stuff is kinda hurtful. I’m cool if you disagree with my political views, but they aren’t simply self-serving and naive.
I am hardly far left and I disagree with many of her legal positions as law is one of my things and I don't fully agree with anyone in that regard. Running a female POC is a ripe pick. She has campain and large-scale governing experience, 20 years younger than Joe and I find her to be relatively personable, super smart and a persuasive speaker with prosecutorial focus. I sense that she is the kind of person you can simply task with a mission and she will just go get it done. I like that. I'm pretty sure she believes in things like science too. The Harris/Pence debate could be entertaining for all but Mike. I am a bit upset though as now Leonard Cohen has to share the honour of being the most famous alumni of Montreal's Westmount high school. Her mom was a doc at McGill.
I keep seeing people talk about how great she's going to do in a debate against Pence but her debate performance in the primaries was uneven and it isn't Pence's first time at a rodeo. Vice presidential debates don't really move the needle on how things are going to shake out but I'll bet both sides are going to have a gteat greasy circle jerk talking about how great their side looked post debate.
