Thank you to Steve for putting together this video. My hope with this podcast and this post is that it spur discussion and act as a time stamp in history that we can look back at as a community. I love ya Hubski! -thenewgreen

I forgot how much I like your voices and through listening, I missed you all. Some other thoughts: “humanodon was born here” is maybe the most concrete endorsement of my citizenship other than my birth certificate, so I really appreciate that! Also, Trump’s shoulder seam on his suit is wicked gross. Don’t do that shit hubski. Also: really nice job editing both video and audio! Steve’s words really resonated with me. At work, one of our values is Collective Care: This has been my experience with hubski. Users here have privately contacted me when I’ve been down and out, offering to make connections for potential jobs, supporting me when I’ve been bent on being too hard on myself, and one user even asked me to do them a favor by reading a book that they sent to me, inside of which, I found $100 when I really needed it. I keep coming back here and I’m so grateful that this group of people has come together. We do not subscribe to the concept of self care by itself. We believe in collective care. We have to take care of each other, create the space for people to take care of themselves, and hold each other accountable for taking care of themselves and each other.
When TNG sent me the audio... I just melted. Seriously - hearing your voices was like coming home. WEIRD, right? Out of the lot of you, I've only ever met thenewgreen and mk in real life... but because of hubski, and more acutely, because of these podcasts, I've heard your voices over and over again during the edits.... seeing your usernames and reading your posts, I get to know people here.. but hearing your voices? it's like we've met. I feel like I know her so well... I've half convinced myself that lil and I are having a torrid affair. I'm super relieved, and really happy to hear you say that. I went back and forth on what to put in your section... racism is tricky... and I could have made some BAD... BAD... choices that could have unintentionally hurt feelings.I forgot how much I like your voices and through listening, I missed you all
maybe the most concrete endorsement of my citizenship
I really appreciate seeing behind the curtain on this one. Really thankful for the consideration! You know, given the association that I’ve had with you and TNG over the years, I didn’t really question what might be done with my recording. If it were people I didn’t know at all, I likely would have been more concerned about how I’d be presented. Perhaps in the future, if there are questions like that, a conversation to between the people working on the project and the people being presented might be a good way to proactively address any doubts? Happy to pass along resources as well. The company I work for produces content and workshops designed to advance racial equity. One of the things I’m interested in developing is a racial equity toolkit for social media. If anyone is interested in having a conversation about what that might look like, I’d love to get more ideas! Anyway, great job on the editing Steve!
Good clip finding! The clip form the speakeasy bar is actually from Montreal. They have burlesque performances twice a week (but it's not on my tour, it's a little small and out of the way). And that hand shake bit made me laugh too. Perfect video combo.
The clip finding is all steve-o. I thought the door sequence during kleinbl00‘s section was spot on. Thanks again, steve Elizabeth, your job sounds like it must be a lot of fun. I imagine it provides for you more than just a paycheck. One thing you and others mentioned, that didn’t make the podcast, was governments using this moment to expand their surveillance reach, etc. I think we should do another one of these in a month and see what has and has not changed.
Yes, it has been fun! I've been living a really privileged life the past few years honestly. Making bank in the summer by drinking and talking and then spending it on travel. I'm hopeful I'll eventually get back to it, but for sure I'll need to also find some other money-making activities. Let's hope we don't get too surveilled!
Unfortunately, expanded surveillance initiatives only flow in one direction historically. Bums me out that amidst a crisis like this there are a lot of cynics among the people that are supposed to be serving us that are using the crisis to further deteriorate our rights. Haven't seen anything as egregious as what happened after 9/11 yet though.
I try! That is the most difficult and time consuming part. Someday maybe I'll just buy a stock footage membership to make my life easier. Until then... Youtube piracy is fairly effective. But the later into the evening I work, the more my brain starts to phrase searches weird... as if English was my second language "slow motion Justin trudeau happy"the speakeasy bar is actually from Montreal
Good clip finding
Holy shit what an excellent surprise. Unsurprised by the eclectic and great song selection, as usual!
Thank you! It was nice to make this. Felt like I was hanging out with old friends. I’m not sure if you caught it, but all of the music was from musicians that have died from COVID-19. It was sad to put together.
Yeah, I saw that. Was choosing to frame it a more positive light :)
Thank you! Positivity is appreciated always, but especially these days. I’ve been saying, “stay positive but don’t test positive.” I’ve been in a funk since making this podcast. I’m very concerned about the state of the world. I’m not sure this will get any better before it gets much worse. Currently, I’m afraid that you can get covid-19 more than one time. Meaning that antibodies won’t protect you from re contracting it. mk is this a valid fear? Also, I started out thanking you for being positive and then went all Debbie downer on you. Sorry B_E. Onward!
I really don’t know. My current covid19 fear is that getting it and getting better doesn’t mean that you are done with it. This virus manifests in some strange ways with great variability. My worry is that years from now, we are going to find that there are long term risks associated with infection.
I love it! I hope this is something that becomes a more regular thing, even if I can certainly appreciate the amount of work that it takes. Great job thenewgreen!
Thanks so much for making this. It was really wonderful to return to the hubski sphere, and to hear so many familiar voices, and all of the interesting things they have to say. It made for a wonderful lens through which to recontextualize all the strangeness of these times. I hope that you are all still well!
Thanks for taking the time to build this thenewgreen and thanks for the nudge to participate and collaborate.
