I'm already severely socially anxious. I got a job at a damn grocery store to try and force myself back into social situations, and then this all happened.
I had a really hard time of it when thousands of people started flooding our store. Regular customers started freaking out. I had one guy try to sneak me $50 if I gave him my departments half empty jar of sanitizer wipes. I had people walking INTO THE BACK my FRESH FOOD department trying to steal our gloves and masks.
Overall the store has done well getting a lot of things in place for everyone's protection. I lucked out and was offered graveyard shift doing prep work so I didn't have to be near anyone, which I have been doing since mid March.
But by the first of May, while more and more protections were put in place, more and more people started being lax. Less than 1/4 of customers coming in are wearing masks and way too many employees have stopped wearing or are improperly wearing masks. Even though I'm the only person in my department at night, on two occasions, I've had to take exaggerated steps away from coworkers as they approach me in my workspace.
Doing this for less than 15 hours a week, and only seeing 2 other people, besides my wife, in person during the last few months has been okay, but still stressful for me.
However, in the last couple weeks (especially Memorial Day), it has become clear that more and more people are done staying at home and done social distancing.
I'm inclined to continue to wear a mask and gloves when I leave the home for a good long while, it'll certainly last until next year when we can see a little more clearly how likely/strongly it will return after summer.
I turned in my two weeks notice and at least until July, when my wife may start working half of her shifts back in her office, we will likely not even leave the apartment except to walk around the block (late at night with less people).
Also, digital Dungeons and Dragons is way less awesome than playing in person, it works, but I miss it. We do have a pretty small group though, so we may be considering this again soonish.
