But...
About a month ago I mentioned to a friend, casually during dinner that "i wish I had some weed once and a while to record music." As I left his home, he handed me a paper bag. In the paper bag was a jar of some chicken liver pate. AND an eight of weed.
Tonight i was listening to an interview with Mitt Romney in which he said that he could never support legalizing recreational use of marijuana because it makes you stupid. That is when I decided I should smoke some.
I did.
I got real high.
And I made this tune.
It was a pretty little tune and then I decided to destroy it with lots of distortion.
Enjoy.

I used to smoke exorbitant amounts. I Dealt it, shared it, lived it. In music school I got to a point where the synthetic high fostered side effects that legitimately impeded my overall ability. Not to defend Romney, but I can relate to him. But really, who cares if you smoke, as long as you aren't hurting anyone else. Though to argue my own point above, there is a point to be made outside of his rudimentary argument - albeit not on the same level of self-destruction as heroin... when someone partakes on their own volition, and continues to the point where they are no longer functioning, and then become a debt to society - compromising the freedom of those around them - is it not fair to mandate laws that protect the rights of those who value other things with their time? This is a chicken vs egg argument. Coffee.
haha yeah dude weed (but really this is great work)
That sounded awesome! I almost never smoke weed either. But I love it. Many many years ago I used to buy it by the pound. But nowadays I just do not hang out where I can do that and the medical mary jane scene I have not had the initiative to look into. I have considered getting a licence because of insomnia or some other excuse. I actually do have insomnia I also had a buddy give me about an oz of some stinky shit a while a go. I smoked 2 pinners (tiny marijuana cigarettes) an evening until it was gone and had some of the best sleeps in years.
Living in Portland, being sober is the exception. On the first day of recording our album, Dave the drummer rolled up to the studio with a lit joint in his mouth. I didn't smoke for the recording, but the sax player and I did microdose with shrooms on day 1 (the only track we keep from day one is the title track of the album). This tune is incredible. I want to hear an entire album of high Papa Hubski tunes.
Dude, I listened to that song you linked a couple of times. I really dig it. A lot. It's so chill and smooth and melodic. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing, I'm excited to hear the whole album!
Hell yeah man! Yeah I've been listening back to the unmastered mixes, working on a track order and I'm very excited to release it!
yeah I just ^^^^ all of this before listening to anything other than the beginning. 2:25 is now giving me a white album vibe..... like if the echoing chorus was a choir of whimsical Norwegian wood sprites and then a Rasputin type of demi-instrumental god verse (maybe the sarod) sat plucking away in the background. I don't usually drink coffee, right now I am.
There is beauty in destruction. For some reason this reminds me of something that would fall right around a My Morning Jacket song.
I just realized that I'm singing the refrain, "summer air," and it's all about smoking pot. It's funny that I can write a lyric, have no idea what it means and then minutes, days, years later I will figure it out. Writing songs is fun stuff.
