Since it's been 4 weeks, I figured we could just get this started.
I've decided to keep things largely the same as FreeThinker's format. If it isn't broke, you know. The next topic can be chosen by the user with the most shared comment in the discussion thread. If it's the same person twice in a row, I'll choose the second best. And if they defer, I'll just pick myself.
As this is my first thread in charge, the topic this round will be: Free Choice.
Surprise us!
Also, I'm figuring out how to do a Hubski Movie Club Theater where I can show a stream of the selected film at a selected time. It's a bit more complicated than I initially thought so I'm going to have to work on it when I have free time, but I'll do my best to get it up and running.
We just need to set a time.
Posts detailing the winning movie and the streaming time are going to come out between Wednesday and Friday after the voting thread. I personally think Sunday evening is probably the best time for the stream. 8 EST? Later?. Maybe I can add a second day of streaming, but I'd prefer not to.
Let me know what you think the best time for the theater would be along with your moving suggestion.
EDIT: The Hubski Movie Club Theater is a go! I'll post the link in the winner post! We still need to come to a consensus on the time!

I have recommended this film in the past and I don't think it's been selected, Cinema Paradiso:
I fully support this choice with one BIG caveat. We need to specify which edit we're going to watch. Without too many spoilers... I saw this in the mid 90s and loved it so hard I went back and watched it 3 or 4 times in the next few days (it was showing on campus). I loved the film. I bought it on DVD. and then I heard that it was being re-cut, and re-released with more footage and I was SO EXCITED. I spent weeks just waiting and waiting to see it. Finally it released on the small screen of our local art house theatre. My wife and I made a big deal of it. Went out to eat before and dessert after - it was a great night... but I gotta say... the new footage CHANGED THE FILM. I won't say here for the better or worse - but it was different. So whichever way we go - I think we should agree on WHICH release we watch.
I have only seen the original, and I would suggest that so when we watch.
It hasn't! That'd be great because I've been sitting on that one for a few years now and I think it's on Netflix
I've figured it out. Hubski Movie Club Theater is a go!
Yeah. Tough with different time zones and schedules, but I'm just trying to come to a utilitarian consensus. Whatever works best for the most people. It's possible I might not get it set up for this round, but hopefully for the next.
Yeah, I'm the same way, don't worry. But I see it more as a way to get a stream out to anyone who needs it. Also, would be cool at building (even more) a sense of community within the club and site.
What a fun movie. This should be mandatory #grubski viewing.
Oh thanks. I really love it. I love everything about it. Subbed to #grubski now.
I'd like to suggest Melancholia In my opinion, the best of Lars von Trier's Depression Trilogy. Available on Netflix
I just watched Melancholia. Horrible movie. Just like all of von Triers' movies. Horrible. Horrible. And beautiful too.
Breaking the Waves was the worst movie I have ever seen. Excellent flick but oh so horrid. von Trier is a very bad man.
I haven't seen Breaking the Waves, I'll have to check it out.
Well I've got a stream working. For some reason it's not in HD, but it is working. I'll keep tinkering to see if I can get resolution options EDIT: Got it!
Where would that be? Shout-outs are "@"username"@", right?
Ok, but that looks like it's referring to me getting an email from another user's shoutout. So if a user didn't get notified by my post, that's on their end?
Weird, I didn't get a notification. 8pm EST on Sundays sound like a good time? I probably can't make some of them but as a general time I'd think people would be free(er than usual) around that time? NOMINATION
I feel bad for beating tacocat to the Hubski Movie Club throne, so to make up for it I'll also steal tacocat's requested submission! :D Taco wanted The Diving Bell and the Butterfly as well as The Theory of Everything to be a sort of double feature this week for having similar themes. That's fine with me if everyone else wants that! But if you want to stick to one movie that's fine too. I'll reply to this comment with the movie names and just share what you prefer.
Ahh, now you stole my thread submission! Life is horrible. Hubski Total Paralysis Double Feature The Theory of Everything is of course the Stephen Hawking biopic from last year. It's good but I didn't feel it explored the experience of losing control of one's body. Hawking gets stuck in a shirt and has a fantasy about picking up a pen but it shows how hard his disability was on his wife more than it does on him. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is based on a memoir by Jean-Dominique Bauby. He had a massive stroke that left him with locked-in syndrome. He can only move one eye. It's entirely from his perspective and does a much better job of exploring the psychology of losing one's body while retaining the mind. It's also in French, so nuts to that for a bunch of people, but I swear it's good.
