Ahh, now you stole my thread submission! Life is horrible.

Hubski Total Paralysis Double Feature

The Theory of Everything is of course the Stephen Hawking biopic from last year. It's good but I didn't feel it explored the experience of losing control of one's body. Hawking gets stuck in a shirt and has a fantasy about picking up a pen but it shows how hard his disability was on his wife more than it does on him.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is based on a memoir by Jean-Dominique Bauby. He had a massive stroke that left him with locked-in syndrome. He can only move one eye. It's entirely from his perspective and does a much better job of exploring the psychology of losing one's body while retaining the mind. It's also in French, so nuts to that for a bunch of people, but I swear it's good.
