Thank you to insomniasexx for ordering the stickers that veen designed and thank you for sending me mine. I have many hundreds of them and I'm happy to send them to Hubskiers all over the globe. All you need to do is to PM me your mailing address and a proper name. I only ask for the name because I have had too many of them not be received by the intended recipient. Or, if you prefer a nice hand written envelope from insom, hit her up as I know she has a ton left too :)
I took eightbitsamurai's idea and placed one on my computer in the bottom left side where my hand rests as I type. -Always touching Hubski... nice:
I also put one on the front of my computer and you can see all the different variations we have had thus far:
I'm happy to send some to you, whether it's your first day on Hubski or if you've been here for years. If you already have old versions of stickers but would like the new ones too, that's fine. HIT ME UP!
Let me know where you'd like them and I'll send them there. Even if it's a friends address. I can go to the post tomorrow with them but they'd take at last 7-10 days to arrive (my guess).
Are there any places in particular where you stick your stickers?
Man I was just thinking about asking Hubski that? Where are good places to post our stickers? So far I've been sticking them on telephone poles and the back of road signs. Tacked one each on the corkboard of my local library, coffeeshop and corner store. Even got one on the ceiling of my favorite bar. My current goal is to sprinkle them all up and down my street. Our Mardi Gras parade comes right down Spanish Town Road (it's a pretty big deal here) so that would be great publicity among the many curious partygoers. Every ten paces, "What the hell is Hubski?" I wish I could think of a more unique place like steve's piano a bit back. Any thoughts?
Your goal sounds a great idea. I don't think we should strive to put the stickers in the most unique places as possible, we should just spread them around as we see fit. Placing it in a local library or coffeeshop is good enough because it's spreading the word in places where mostly good and decent people are gathering each day.
Those stickers are really awesome. I really like their design. On an unrelated note, I like to write poetry and sometimes I would place my poetry in random places such as bathrooms, bus stops, train stations and bookstores. I would place my email in these notes in the hopes of random people responding to me. I left about thirty notes throughout the past year and only two people responded. One conversation led nowhere but the other one led me to the discovery of this awesome slam poetry community that wasn't too far from where I live. I have taken up slam poetry because of this experience and I have become pretty decent at it. I would love to leave stickers in random places since I am already used to leave things in random places.
For the record, to get 2/30 responses to a random poem and email address is excellent. For one of those responses to lead to a slam community that you enjoy is amazing. So -- let's see a poem? Is there one posted on line somewhere or a video of ArtemusBlank's Slam Performance?
I don't have a video yet but I can definitely produce a slam poem... America is a giant strip mall. Wal Mart, K Mart, Mcdonalds, Seven-Eleven, Dunkin Donuts, Dollar Tree…. you know the names, you know them by heart. You know them a lot better than the Bill of Rights or the name of your Congressmen and even if you claim not to know, you know for who can go five miles without seeing a dry cleaners, a pizzeria, a Chinese place and a phone store all crammed together in a corner on the side of the road. The American Strip Mall is embedded in our heads from birth, it’s baseball, it’s mom’s apple pie, it’s the core of our consumer culture and it grows each and every day. Who ever said no to another strip mall? Another Seven-Eleven… Another Walgreens…Another Applebees..bring it on they say for we live and we die in these places. Seriously name me one American that doesn’t know the existence of a strip mall? Name me one American. Name me one American. They’re in our TV shows, our books, our movies and our magazines. Anywhere and everywhere there is a strip mall waiting for you. For where else can you get your chapstick, your lipstick, your romance novels, your pizzas, your cigarettes and your insurance policies? Do not fear the strip mall, embrace it, for it’s always there for you giving you what you want, giving you what you need for life can be a bummer but the American Strip Mall is always there with it’s new deals and it’s new openings. And those deals are oh so sweet, how can one resist. America, America, the land of the free and the land of the strip mall. We fight for the strip mall. We bleed for the strip mall. We die for the strip mall. I know it sounds insane but it’s true when you really think about it. For what is our consumer culture without it’s strip malls? Kohl’s, Barnes & Noble, Pep Boys, Gamestop, Pathmark, Dollar General, Sears, Starbucks and so many more countless, nameless restaurants, liquor stores, drugstores, shoe stores, clothing stores, smoke shops and other stores that are all crammed together in a corner on the side of the road waiting and waiting for you for these are the places you need to be at. Remember America is a giant strip mall and you’re in it whether you like it or not.
It sounds like you are the ideal sticker recipient; already used to propagating the bathroom wall gospels. -Just make sure they're really thoughtful bathrooms, okay? Glad you found Hubski and happy to send you some stickers. I look forward to reading/hearing your poetry as you share it with the community.
Thank you. What actually makes a really thoughtful bathroom though? Some sort of fancy towel? haha. I am careful though where I placed my notes. I always put my notes in places where I think interesting people might show up. Thanks for the welcome by the way. I will definitely share poetry.
I definitely like the creativity of this picture. If someone were to send me a bunch of those stickers, then I would put as many as I can in all the good bathrooms that I can think of haha.
Your laptop is straight cult-y at this point man :D By the way, is there some sort of guide for us, in the event that we have to explain what Hubski is to other people? Not people that reddit either, like normal people.
It's been a while since we've drank or been on the IRC en masse, or both. Too long....drink on IRC sometimes.
nowaypablo and elizabeth, here is a radio interview where mk and I try our best to describe it. It's not easy, you're right. http://michiganradio.org/post/ann-arbor-natives-create-new-social-media-site
Whenever I place my notes of poetry in random spots, I always try to make sure that no one sees me placing the note. I just feel it's more fun that way. Not to be caught. Have any of you guys been caught placing stickers around and do you have any some sort of approach where placing the stickers? Do it while no one is watching...that sort of thing? I guess you can go that Hubski is a more thoughtful community where petty Internet drama doesn't really have much of a home?
I love those stickers, and I was just thinking about what sticker I would put on my new linux laptop. I used to have some rather large legend of zelda stickers I used, but alas, they are gone. This seems like a perfect opportunity!
