I've been getting into a bad habit of eating large meals infrequently, with questionable nutritional content. I have limited funds, but I think I can manage a diet where I eat healther, smaller meals/snacks more frequently. Unfortunately I can't think of any easy fruits, veggies, etcs that I could eat at work and don't need the equipment to prepare anything
Any ideas?
A bag of mixed nuts is a healthy and delicious snack. Nuts, as you probably know, are high in protein. Each type of nut also has various other health benefits. Similar to what BrainBurner said about pretzels; the less salt you have, the better it is for you. I actually prefer them without salt. The sodium levels aren't too high in the salted nuts, though, so it's not that bad if you choose to have salt. Either way, nuts are a great snack choice.
I LOOOVE mixed nuts! Unfortunately where i come from they have to be imported and are VERY EXPENSIVE!!
Raw nuts are good too- especially almonds. Also (in moderation) dried fruit without added sugar.
Avocado has such a great texture. There's nothing else like it. I always enjoy sushi rolls that have sliced avocado on top. -not the healthiest vehicle for avocado but tasty.
Now you're on the Avocado Monster's Shit List!
I eat avocados like apples. Cuts out the vehicle all together.
Bananas and peanut butter, in some combination. And apples.
This topic is making me hungry. I think I'll eat my computer!
Eggplant, pepper, zucchini and other vegetables oven baked. Add some salt, oil, pepper and even cheese if you feel like it. I did some with cheddar not long ago: I also did some ranch sauce to eat with celery not long ago, but i'm not sure it qualifies as healthy... the celery just becomes a vehicle for the ranch to get into my mouth.
This is so amazing that you will eat it instead of junk food. It's nicer. Roast chickpeas 1 drained, rinse can of chickpeas
2 tsp olive oil
0.5 tsp cayenne pepper
Salt to taste 1. Combine everything 2. Bake at a high heat for 15 minutes 3. Take out and shake pan/roll them around. 4. Bake for a second 15 minutes BINGO! You can also flavour these with cinnamon and even sugar if you want a sweeter snack. Or try other herbs and spices. Don't overdo the oil though because they are less nice when oily. They need to be a little dry, not too greasy.
Hummus is my fave, but make sure you've got mints or a toothbrush because it'll make your breath smell like you fucked a garlic clove.
I like to juice apples, lemon, kale, romain and celery together. A great pick me up.
This is just the thread I need. I've just had my routine test at the hospital and I'm shaking in my boots awaiting the results as I try and focus on work. I guess I'm going to have to pay for my endless snacking, questionable drinking habits, and my on/off smoking habit. The trouble is, in my mind healthy = not tasty. I know this isn't true, but that's how my mind works. I'd love to be proved wrong by this thread.
I was like that for a long time, then I started cooking for myself. Also, just my personal experience, the reason a lot of people don't like vegetables, is because they were prepared wrong when you were a kid. Spinach is my prime example. Most people used to boil the green out of their greens, and gray, slimy slop is not tasty. However, spinach in salad, on a burger in place of lettuce, or blended into a fruit smoothie is delicious. For example, my breakfast for the past few weeks has been frozen mango chunks, yogurt, kale, spinach, a banana, and a bit of milk for consistency. And you know what? It's delicious.
Ah. See this is exactly what I am talking about. Maybe healthy can equal tasty. I just don't know. There's a way we eat now. And there's tons of healthy food advocacy. The concept of data noise is really overwhelming. I don't know if someone who doesn't have 'legitimate' body issues understands. I'm overweight. Very much so. Not a day goes by without me worrying about everything I eat. You have those who tell you a certain thing is good. And those who tell you it is bad. It is no longer a question of maybes. I have to lose weight now. Right now. It can't be postponed. I need an answer now. Every meal is a calculation. I don't know if I'm able to communicate the urgency people like me feel. In between the horror of seeing the person you have become and the fear of being ridiculed, written off there is a genuine desire to know. What am I doing wrong? How is that guy thinner. How can he eat as much as I do and not have to grapple with this? Why can't I just enjoy a beer like anyone else without being judged? I don't know. I will try out the combos you suggest. They sound like fun. Edit: This comment is showing up twice. I don't know why.
Bags of baby carrots are perfect snacking material! No preparation required, they are relatively cheap and carrots are damn good for you. In terms of carbs pretzels are low fat and generally good for you. Bonus points for salt-less pretzels! Finally, a banana is an easy snack, and delicious!
