That special three-letter protocol has been dropped 7 times in the past 48 hours. In the interests of new years changes and all that jazz, I'm going to be pro-active for once and call together another meetup on Monday, tonight (Jan. 19th) at 10-12 PM EST.
The server and channels are: #hubski @ irc.mountai.net
Bring your drinks, bring your kids, but don't kid your drinks or drink your kids.
Our previous one and its call to action
lil, thenewgreen, galen, demure.
(One's exclusion from the shoutout list does not imply one's exclusion from the event)
It's happening tonight?! I can do tonight! Also, working on writing you back. Finally found a decent postcard.
Fantastic on both counts. Today a letter from wasoxygen was in my postbox. it was the most amazing thing because it seems he created a faux stamp consisting of a hubski wheel. The stamp said stamps.com on it and 49 cents in US postage. It also had a bar code. It was a beautiful thing. I looked up stamps.com and found a yelp site where a whole lot of people were saying it was a scam that would bill you forever if you signed up. Wasoxygen is a very very smart guy so I don't know what to think ... and the hubski stamp was a beautiful thing. I'd take a picture of it - if I could.
I neglected to research the company, naively trusting the USPS endorsement. The difficulty people report canceling their accounts is enough to justify avoiding them. That said, I had no trouble with my order on photo.stamps.com. It was a one-time order, paid by credit card, and there was no mention of a recurring payment and no further charges after I paid $19.99 for twenty 49ยข stamps. The complaints appear to come from the main site, stamps.com, which clearly explains (today, at least) that opening an account exposes you to $15.99 monthly charges.
It's not as though you'll miss anything important... IRC is an exercise in frustration and wonkiness... but let's all study up on the theme suggested by eightbitsamurai:What have you done that you would consider productive? What does productivity mean to you? How do you stay motivated?
I'll go out and buy some pineapple juice and prepare some pina colada for everyone. Unfortunately I'll be the only one available (and old enough) to drink it.
I have zero attachment to the day other than having picked Tuesday because it was volunteered by others in the comments prior. Today is also a holiday... Shout-out to the sharers: ThatsAFreeThinker, galen, ButterflyEffect, c_hawkthorne, demure, OftenBen, eightbitsamurai, coffeesp00ns, iammyownrushmore, lil, thenewgreen. Opinions?
Tonight is good for me too. thundara and Monday is the usual day -- I suspect 10:00 - midnight p.m. EST which is 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. PST and somewhere in between for eightbitsamurai sounds ok -- people can pop by after the kids are fed and asleep, or if there are no kids after whatever they were supposed to do is done. anyone have a relevant current topic?
I too can do Monday. No relevant current topic I can think of. Oh, maybe Productivity/Motivation. demure and galen are two ridiculously productive people. Dendrophobe and I can have trouble being productive/motivated. What have you done that you would consider productive? What does productivity mean to you? How do you stay motivated? Stuff like that. I could just be shooting ideas into the wind.
lol Seriously though, that sounds like a great topic. On a similar note, I just stumbled on this article: http://waitbutwhy.com/2013/10/why-procrastinators-procrastinate.htmlgalen
ridiculously productive
I suggest 11:00 p.m. EST to accommodate west coaster[s] who have to feed babies and complain that we keep hitting him during dinner hour. If that's not too late, I'll post a reminder for east-coasters -- then there's eightbitsamurai stuck in the middle again
Most people are on there, try another client? https://kiwiirc.com/client Server: irc.mountai.net Channel: #hubski Port: 6667 (no ssl)
Dang, can't make this one. Going to be busy every night this week until Sunday night. Have a good time all, I'll miss it and catching up with many of you.
