Lots of music this week but nothing that ya'll haven't heard before. I went and saw Andrew Bird perform live, that was pretty cool and I'm heading to go see Band of Horses this week. I've never seen them and honestly, I'm not familiar with their work. I have to cram their music by Wednesday. Where to start? ButterflyEffect, T-Dog, jonaswildman or anyone else... are you guys Band of Horses fans? What must I hear prior to seeing them live? My favorite tune that Andrew played that night: Band of Horses Everything All the Time -Full album:
Thanks veen, I'll check it out today. Show is tonight and I have some studying-up to do in order to refine my appreciation. Though, sometimes it's a lot of fun to go to a show with little to no history of their work. Cheers!
Band of horses Is cool. I've always been a fan of everything all the time. Their newest album is called mirage rock and it's all right. Nothing special in my opinion. Their song "detlef schrempf" is one of my faves. I enjoy their music but I saw them live and honestly I wasn't that into it. Their arrangement just doesn't lend itself to exciting live performances. maybe that was because I saw them at a festival, though. They do have a fat shredding blues guitarist/pianist that is hilarious(ly awesome).
They rocked last night! They have been touring to support their acoustic release that veen mentioned, "Live at the Ryman" and last night was one of their (if not the first) first electric shows in a while. You could tell that they were just releasing and the energy was amazing. I was blown away. Their chemistry was awesome and the music sounded fantastic, dense and powerful. Great vocals, awesome melodies etc. I had a blast! I'm a fan.
Here's new Alt-J for those interested. https://soundcloud.com/alt-j/hunger-of-the-pine/s-rBcfY#t=4:51
It took me much too long. This week I'm into The New Green. Bought their second album and really really enjoying it. And it's by our good friend thenewgreen. Start here.
I got introduced to alt-J here yesterday so I've been listening to them a lot since well, yesterday.
My Youtube "liked" playlist, for anybody interested. (If posting this kind of thing is against the rules, I'll delete this comment)
My guilty pleasure is grungy punk rock stuff. The new acoustic EP by The Story so Far is called Navy Blue and I've been loving it. Oh and if anyone is a fan of The Front Bottoms, they've just released an EP of old previously un-released fan favorites. It's called The Rose EP. It breathes fresh life into the crappy old recordings of the songs and it's great fun.
Silver Jews - American Water. Full album. Which is one of my favorite albums by any band ever. It's a lackadaisically crushing album. Pony Hand - Pony Hand. Which is another record that my label is working on releasing. Digital is out, tapes will be out soon.
Legendary guitarist John McLaughlin, after the Miles Davis quintet... went a little "ape shit," as they say.
