This Friday, November 22nd mk, b_b, insomniasexx, thenewgreen and ecib will be visiting DC and we'd love for you all to come hang out with us.
We will meet up at 8:00pm at Bourbon in Adams Morgan.
Here is the address:
2321 18th St NW
Washington DC
20009
_refugee_, wasoxygen, arguewithatree, Meriadoc, humanodon, cW and anyone else interested in attending... we'll see you there! For those unable to attend, we will update a post throughout the night of increasingly more bizarre and blurry photos. elizabeth, maybe we could all try and take photos for your challenge too....
See ya soon Hubski DC!
My guess is that sometime in the first quarter of 2014 we will be in NYC for a meetup.
I will pay for your bus ticket to DC. It looks like they have Peter Pan busses. I've done the NYC - DC - Raliegh/Durham bus before. It's not too bad. Get on it.
I really appreciate that, but if I left now, I'd get to Boston at around 11:30-12:00, then it's a 10-10.5 hr ride to DC. Anyway, I hope you guys have fun (I know you will) and that there are more of these meetups in the future that I'll be able to make it to :)
YES!! _refugee_ gettin' my back haha. This would be absolutely amazing. I can't hit up any bars, but I'd be more than happy to show you guys the most interesting vibes in the neighborhood. I pride myself with knowing the city well, and I have a pretty good taste in the musical nightlife and art culture there :) Let me know if there's anything I can do to help make this happen!
Man, NYC used to be so much awesomer in the 90s (as did most places when it comes to partying). I used to visit my older cousin there, who was in college while I was in high school, and we could get ripped anywhere, Manhattan, Brooklyn; didn't matter. The only bar I ever remember getting kicked out of was a Rastafarian bar in the Village, but I think they used us being underage as an excuse to get two young, skinny white dudes out of their hangout.
As awesome as that sounds, it's sadly no longer a reality :( ID checks every club, bar, and social venue with beer in a mile radius. It's ridiculous. The only place you might have a chance these days is actually the village :P
Oh yeah, actually we can :D I have a fake but I wouldn't risk using it with you guys and cause trouble. Stop making me look forward to this, it hasn't even been planned yet >.<
I'll keep an eye on this. It sounds like _refugee_ will not break the record for the Most Miles Travelled by Car for the Sole Purpose of Attending a Hubski Meetup award (Prize: One cool hubski t-shirt). insomniasexx probably has the award for greatest distance flown. Not that it's a competition. But it could be. thenewgreen travels great distances, but I always thought his trips were multi-purposeful (i.e. business, see family, etc.) As for the NYC meetup, if it's in April, I can probably make it.
Oh, that's not bad. I think my plan is to park at the metro and walk to the bar. Hopefully meet a DC friend whom (who?) I am attempting to drag along (and crash with) at some point. Then take the metro to her place for the night and come back up the metro for my car the next morning. Does that sound like a reasonable thing people do?
Welcome to D.C.! Best bet is to have your driver drop you off in a black Lincoln Town Car. If you mean to park at one of the nearby metro stations (Dupont Circle, U Street or Zoo Station) you will likely have a tough time of it. The stations are underground and offer no parking. Street parking in the neighborhood is a miserable affair Friday nights, but it can be done. The signs are confusing, and once you find a legal-looking space you'll have to feed the meter until 10 p.m. (The two-hour parking limit ends at 6 p.m.) Many spaces support pay-by-phone and Parkmobile; if you are thinking of using the app you might want to set up your account and car information in advance. It's quite convenient once you have it working, and usually prevents you from getting a bogus ticket. Parking is $2 per hour, and enforcement begins again Saturday morning. If you are thinking of parking out in the burbs and taking the train in, check the map to make sure your station has parking available. They fill up in the morning, but by late afternoon on a Friday you should be able to find a vacated space. Officially, overnight parking is only available at Greenbelt, Huntington, and Franconia-Springfield. In practice, the parking garages are not attended on the weekend and you will almost certainly be fine if you park 24 hours or less. Good luck!
Like wasoxygen said, that's not really recommended. You should find somewhere to park and take a train to and from there. You'll welcome to park near my house in Columbia Heights, mostly because that's a known entity for allowed to park, and it's closer than the suburbs.
If I could possibly arrange to park near your house, that would be wonderful. Thank you for the offer. And then take the Metro to the bar, and then - if it would be possible - get the car the next morning as I both anticipate and hope I will have had far too good of an evening to be able to drive anywhere that night.
Let me know if you have any problems with transportation. I'll do what I can
Checking in to comment: currently my attendance at this is up in the air. I have a new car that I need to pick up at the dealership. At the same time, my dad needs to be picked up from the train station in DE at 6:30. I asked my mother for help with these things. Over the course of the conversation, she hung up on me. So, I'm not sure if a) my dad has a ride and b) I'll be able to get my own car tonight. If I can get my own car, even if I need to pick up my dad, I'll be able to come but I'll be on the later side (9pmish). If I can't get my own car, I'm afraid I'm going to be stranded in Delaware. I'll try to update as the day and my plans progress.
Listen to thenewgreen. He is an excellent salesman and will fix any and all issues between you and your mom. You better come. I was so looking forward to meeting you.
You are coming. Let me talk to your mom. "If you will it, it is no dream." See you tonight at 9pm.
I have tentative plans in place to obtain the car, that seems like a go. I'm going to have to talk to my dad about who's picking him up which is what will determine how late I am (as long as all goes well with the car). Looks like we are a go. insomniasexx, b_b sorry for the false alarm. Hopefully I will be there.
Yay! I'm on the plane. I arrive in a few hours. Powering through some work stuff. Almost done!
Aw shucks, work all day Friday. How often would the meet up be in DC?
Like thenewgreen said, this isn't common, but I'm always here in DC!
Not very often, I don't foresee another one with mk, b_b, myself and insom there anytime in the foreseeable future. Considering we all live in Michigan, California and North Carolina. But you all can get together anytime :) Hope you can make it!
