It's about ten to fifteen minutes, in a straight line. If you like, I can meet you at the metro and walk with you to the bar.

Oh, that's not bad. I think my plan is to park at the metro and walk to the bar. Hopefully meet a DC friend whom (who?) I am attempting to drag along (and crash with) at some point. Then take the metro to her place for the night and come back up the metro for my car the next morning. Does that sound like a reasonable thing people do?

Welcome to D.C.! Best bet is to have your driver drop you off in a black Lincoln Town Car.

If you mean to park at one of the nearby metro stations (Dupont Circle, U Street or Zoo Station) you will likely have a tough time of it. The stations are underground and offer no parking. Street parking in the neighborhood is a miserable affair Friday nights, but it can be done. The signs are confusing, and once you find a legal-looking space you'll have to feed the meter until 10 p.m. (The two-hour parking limit ends at 6 p.m.) Many spaces support pay-by-phone and Parkmobile; if you are thinking of using the app you might want to set up your account and car information in advance. It's quite convenient once you have it working, and usually prevents you from getting a bogus ticket. Parking is $2 per hour, and enforcement begins again Saturday morning.

If you are thinking of parking out in the burbs and taking the train in, check the map to make sure your station has parking available. They fill up in the morning, but by late afternoon on a Friday you should be able to find a vacated space. Officially, overnight parking is only available at Greenbelt, Huntington, and Franconia-Springfield. In practice, the parking garages are not attended on the weekend and you will almost certainly be fine if you park 24 hours or less.

Good luck!

This is exactly the kind of information I need and thank you.

Like wasoxygen said, that's not really recommended. You should find somewhere to park and take a train to and from there. You'll welcome to park near my house in Columbia Heights, mostly because that's a known entity for allowed to park, and it's closer than the suburbs.

If I could possibly arrange to park near your house, that would be wonderful. Thank you for the offer. And then take the Metro to the bar, and then - if it would be possible - get the car the next morning as I both anticipate and hope I will have had far too good of an evening to be able to drive anywhere that night.
