There's a certain rush to these guys' blues rock drive. They're gnarlier than the Black Keys, more focused than the White Stripes, and a whole lot angrier than the both of 'em. The lyrics are generic and awful, but the screams are fucking poetic.
Reignwolf is my favorite artist in this unkown style, here he is.
There are hardly any views for any of these bands, in the genre of the two I've linked so far, and this upsets me–but also makes me feel cool in a plottingraccoon.png sort of way.
For those of ye who prefer music lighter on the ears, this is also an example of the vibe I'm looking for–
Hit me up! I need more! Also, can someone ID this genre? It's more specific than blues-rock. Also, all of the bands along these lines are very new; most, two of the three I've posted here, have not dropped a full-length record yet.
Other details: Through Pandora, I'll get similar artists like Patrick Sweaney (The Keys' drummer) who dropped a nice album before the Keys were a thing. The Doorbells are also an amazing band of this style but I can't link it because they're so unnkown that they have no YouTube videos or bandcamp presence and only exist on Pandora?!?!
Anyway, if you haven't heard these dudes and they're your vibe, enjoy! If not, go away, I'm jammin here!
(Edit: Don't forget the Dirty Streets!) This is a much more motown, bluegrass rock roots soul whatever-type band. Not necessarily what I"m looking for.
http://dirtystreets.bandcamp.com/
edit2: None of these, partially from being so new, are legendary amazing bands.. yet. They're just examples of the vibe I can scrounge up atm.
Okay yeah wow, you hadn't jammed Fugazi so please do cause they rule. I'm so over rock music, but Fugazi forever.
I'll make some projections, I really hate the bluesy thing, but with Fugazi I think I can reach out a lil olive branch.
Fuck, this is epic. My ears got work to do. Thank you. edit: god damn I love fugazi. Welcome back '90s.
Great post! Refused fucking rips, as does Shellac and many others you linked to. Big Star is something else. I remember when I found them in my early 20's it was like finding the Rosetta Stone for a lot of the music I listened too. There's little snippets of them in virtually every rock band from the 80's-90's.
Oh lemme help out some more with this: MC5: Maybe some Black Rebel Motorcycle Club: Probably throw some Japandroids in there: Then I'm going to leave it to Titus Andronicus to bring it home: I don't know what to classify this genre usually it's somewhere between "Garage Rock" and "LOUD DISTORTED GUITAR NOISES WITH A SIMPLE BLUES RIFF"
This is one of the most spot-on to what I'm thinkin, thanks! Much more of an mass-appeal grind even though it's loud. Love Black Rebel Motorcycle Club btw, I just missed seeing them live:/
My wife is really into this genre, I can look through her music later and see what else I can dig up! I've seen BRMC a few times now, never been disappointed. Their drummer recently had brain surgery though and I haven't heard if she's going to continue with them or not :(
Mayhaps some Monkeywrench? Not super bluesy but you can't really ever go wrong with Mike Patton on the mic. Of course there's always Clutch, and who doesn't like some Clutch every now and then? Not people you'd want to associate with; that much I can tell you. And because I tell everyone about them every time someone mentions music; All Them Witches
I'm really digging that Roddy Walston track. First thing that popped up in my mind: Spoon? This was a song to an Apple commercial years ago. Still a great sound: More on the electronic side, but my god I love Midnight Juggernauts: Tangentially related: while looking at relevant artists, I found this amazing cover of Floyd by the Flaming Lips:
The Keys are too nervous– and they're too big at this point– to make such calm, simple and emotional music. Everyone wants them to make dancey rock songs, and they're tearing up the reason people fell in love with their music in the first place to do so.
Classy drummer for Pistol. That's a sick band for sure, and I forgot about KEXP– Seattle is a good place to look for this vibe. And that's just an awesome, groovy sound from Thornton. They're both really cool, thanks! My fault forgetting to tag you in the hubsquid list.
Sabbath and Zeppelin among my first thoughts. Also -
Maybe a bit sloppier than what you are looking for but an epic hard blues/rock band.
Vincebus Eruptum is a good album to start with.
Robin Trower is pretty much the mothers milk of hard blues/rock.
Bridge of Size is the album to check out first.
Ya might like Hawkwind.
I'm not all that knowledgeable about them but seems to fit the bill.
You really can't go wrong with either of Nick Cave's "Grinderman" albums. Vicious, hard driving rock right in the pocket your are taking about I'd say.
Every thing else I'm thinking of is way more on the psychedelic side, which the stuff you posted isn't so much. My head isn't in the rock world at the moment anyway, been listening to forgotten old school hip hop and outsider music as of late, like this stuff.
Blue Cheer is pretty whack, and I love Trower. Why can't I stop listening to that Robert Ashley.. "album"...? It's hypnotizing.. Reminds me of this
Paging any Hubsqueegee who I can recall having at least some form of a taste for rock: thenewgreen veen flagamuffin galen camarillobrillo _refugee_ iamducky--Orleans must be like the hotbed for this kinda stuff, any thoughts? obviously, you and flag know Reignwolf so you know what i'm talking about.
Dude, I can't think of any new bands that I know of that will scratch the same itch as Goodness, but damn if they don't sound extremely Zeppelin-esque. Have you spent a lot of time listening to Zep? Some bad-ass rifferery and the kings of hard rock blues: Old Sabbath? Something about them reminded me a bit of Helmet too. Not sure why: Really, anyone asking for intro's to hard rock, gets a Fugazi from me: Also, that J. Roddy Walston track made me think of Adam Green's Festival Song, it's also a playful track, with some big background vox etc. I dig this live version. HIs music is pretty polarizing though, people either dig it or hate it. I like it. Patrick Sweany - I dug this. thanks. Can't pass up an opportunity to plug what I think is one of the best live and recorded rock bands out there: Hope this was helpful. Thanks for the introductions to some new music.
Man, Led Zeppelin is the reason all these bands even exist. I've gone through Led Zeppelin I over and over again, it's gotta be my favorite as a complete album. Just picked up IV for a good listening, but Black Dog is the only thing that shines through for me there– apart from Stairway to Heaven, of course.
I don't know Fugazi. I've heard about them so many times, and I've never heard their songs. Ever. Holy shit this is sick:D Thank you. Love me some Sabbath. I was hanging with metalheads for a large part of my summer; they talked about Ozzy almost as much as they talked about Satan. All great suggestions. Honestly people are posting such good shit now I feel bad about the bands I posted. I was just trying to show the core instrumentation and sound of what I was looking for, and I got way better from you, so thank you.
Dude. dude. When The Levee Breaks is so damn amazing. It's the music to drive by, tapping the steering wheel to the rhythm of the drums, driving until the sun goes down. Goin' down, goin' dowwwwnnn... Black Dog is the only thing that shines through for me there
oh god how could I forget. I feel like a traitor :S
Yep, one of the best drum tracks ever. Love the sound of it. Also, Going to California is pretty damn awesome: Also, Misty Mountain Hop? Pretty kick ass ode to hobbits: Though, it does seem that they're now the best cover band of all time.
Glad you got something out of it. The bands you posted sounded great and were a good way to direct the conversation. ghostoffuffle, what ever happened to the progressive mixes you started where someone picks a track and then people add to it etc? That was cool. Did it fizzle out?
Fizzled. Think the last one got two submissions not including my own, and three songs does not a mixtape make. Too bad, thought it had promise.
