im in Ireland and sometime it gets to our northern shores and its amazing so get out and see it
I'm able to monitor the geomagnetically induced currents at work. Looks like the storm hit about 6 AM central time. It's still going strong.
No, but a somewhat similar company. We monitor the GIC current as it has the potential for serious impacts. (Some quick legalese: my comments here are my own and may not reflect the views or opinions of my employer)
Cool! They say this strength occurs only 4 times per 11 year solar cycle. But I wasn't watching last night. I'm at 63.5° N. We had a full moon shining on the fjord and it was lovely, but I didn't go outside and look up. Maybe it will still be doing something tonight...
I'm at 47!!!!!!! Any time of the night in particular out here in Washington? Right at sunset? Midnight? francopoli. We still have smoke cover but it's clearing a bit. Hopefully enough.
After 10PM Local Time. Moon will be big, bright and in your face, but look north and see if the sky has a weird, eerie glow to it. That is the aurora. Watch that glow for 30-40 minutes and see if it changes. No Aurora here but with my binoculars I bagged 12 of the 110 Messier objects. I was shooting for 20, but the transparency here tonight is not good enough.
Okay, sounds good. Where are you getting 45 from? That image makes it look like you need to be in a northern Canadian province to see anything.
It's overcast here. I'm at 43°N. Too bad this isn't when I'm out in the wilderness next week.
