Okay so this is a bit of a stretch because we don't have many gaming types on Hubski. But with the newest Reddit influx that might have changed a bit. So I was wondering if you guys'd wanna do a Hubski Game Club.
Basically, what I'm thinking is a two tier thing.
First would be submitting a game you'd want to play for the month, along with an explanation for why you'd want to play it. The game with the most interest would be the one we pick. Then, each week, we talk about how far we've progressed, what we're thinking of the game, so on. I'd suggest an emphasis on PC/Mac games, just because everybody (theoretically) has a computer, but not everyone has an Xbox, PS3, 3DS, etc. etc.
But not everyone can play games from "beginning to end" because of time and all that jazz (I'll be fasting so I have all the time in the world, but I digress). So there'd also be a game, weekly or monthly, I'm not sure, that just focuses on single-play, multiplayer stuff, like Team Fortress 2, Left4Dead, etc. etc. That way people with less time could join in and play for a bit. A focus would be on free PC multiplayer games as well, just because that's more inclusive.
Thoughts? Ideas? Is this the worst idea since Weekly DJ? Let's discuss.
If ever you do stuff I can play on the Mac Steam client, lemme know. I'd be into it.
I've never actually played TF2. I'll pick up the Orange box in the Summer sale though. It's 10 bucks, can't go wrong.
tf2 is free my man, otherwise I wouldn't have it either
Yeah, but I want HL2 and Portal, so I picked up orange Box because It includes TF2. ; )
I bought Orange Box purely for Portal. Worth it.
I love the idea of a game club, I'll happily join in when I can. On the idea for multiplayer games: Why don't we get a Steam group going? (This also could help the club part.) We had a Steam Group for the Chroma alpha, and being able to see that a game session was scheduled was awesome, made it easy to jump in, no preparation ahead of time. It'd also facilitate more impromptu games (i.e. you see part of the group playing Counter Strike, so you jump in with them,) and we'd have a Steam chat room too.
Just an FYI for both of you that there's already a Hubski group on Steam, I think there's ~50 people in it but I don't know who a lot of them are.
The Hubski steam group is here: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/Hubski It's fairly inactive at the moment; I just set it up so that it would be there, and haven't played much in the past while.
I think this could be fun. Seems it would be best to focus on slightly older games with a good story. This would allow us to play to a certain point in a game each week, and then discuss the story so far. A game like Half-Life 2 could be a great start. Slightly older games would be more likely to run on peoples computers, and would be less expensive for people that don't have them, giving us more possible people to play along.
You can play PC games with a PS3 controller, kb. This is one of many options.
Yeah.... I know. I've got a Mac Mini hooked up to the same system. There's a big experiential difference between drilling into the thing via VNC and having a remote that does everything you need, though. And I don't hate the UI for Sony or Nintendo, while Windows makes my teeth itch.
I simply attached my gaming PC to my computer, and got a controller for it. Best of both worlds, outside of a few exclusives I miss out on, I have access to most anything I want, and often for far less than on a console.
I have torrented every game I own, except for the free ones. I would whoop ass in some Civ V, but we'd need a Hubski meetup to become a LAN party. Unless you're just talking individual playing and then group discussion on Hubski, in which case I'm down for anything remotely Mac/Wineskin compatible
PC here, Linux/Windows. Play mainly older games and indie games, though. TA, MOO2, SE4, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, KSP, MC, DF, etc, etc.
I'm on PC, PS3, PSV, Wii U, 3DS and Xbox 360 at the moment, with PC being preferred, but I don't think this will take off thanks to differences in platform of choice and gaming style. I'll be out the moment a story driven game with a low skill cap is chosen while I do not expect others to pick up something like The Wonderful 101 or Civilization V, due to the high investment required. With the exception of Monster Hunter and fighting games I tend to hate online multiplayer games, so that isn't appealing to me either.
I think it sounds good and I'd have some interest, maybe not every game since well, I don't have that much disposable income. I think it sounds like a great thing though.
