The portion of Mr. Kitty - Time that's been posted so far. I'm looking forward to this album.
Smallpools - "Dreaming" Those drums. I got recorded singing this terribly and still didn't care. The 1975 - "Chocolate" His voice, trance-y, reverb-y music Guy Sebastian - "Like a Drum" I love how he sings "like a drum" it's what made me addicted. Very Loud - "Shout Out Louds" It's just driving and kinda punky folk
Band Of Skulls - "Hollywood Bowl" - I don't know. I just like this right now. Dirty Heads - "My Sweet Summer"- fuck yeah summer - reggae, typical cali amazing shit, with some edm feels. Kongos - "Come With Me Now" - radio hit right now but still love it Dom La Nena, "Batuque" - so good Colbie Caillat - Live it Up - don't knock it right off the bat. Listen to it without thinking of it and enjoy it. This was on my random spotify list and my roomie and I were just talking and at the same time I realized I really liked whatever song was playing, he goes "can you send me this song"
Terje Rypdal, Miroslav Vitous, Jack DeJohnette - Sunrise Captivating Jazz Fusion, with elements of Ambient and Progressive Rock, among others. Amazing soundscapes and atmoshperes are created through their pieces. Chet Faker - Archangel Live Session Chet Faker, mostly known as a solo electronic composer, does a soulful, jazzy cover of one of Burial's most known tracks 'Archangel' with a live band. Chet Faker has done a number of performances available on Youtube with this setup and I highly recommend checking them. They're much better than his album tracks. Guthrie Govan - Wonderful Slippery Thing I'm usually not a huge fan of those manic guitar shredders as they're more often than not just people playing fast with little musicality. However, this guy gets it right. A wonderful fusion of genres, sounds, and musicianship. Every member in the band is fantastic and the guitar that takes the lead is carefully considered and mesmerising. Portico Quartet - Line / Rubidium (Live) Beautiful contemporary Jazz, merged with electronics and various other styles. I'll let this one speak for itself if you care to give it the full play-through.
Man, Chet Faker is great. Ben's gif sums it up pretty well. Actually got to listen to some Faker on the radio on the way to work today, hoping that's a good sign.
Had a party today/night. Started with: Went to: Now we are watching US v Portugal. US just scored second goal!!
So how do you embed your videos using the hubski markup? I tried copying the embed suggested by youtube but it posted as html.
Normally I'm not a fan of the 80's Neoclassical Shredders (ie. Yngwie Malmsteen and Michael Angelo Batio). I used to be as a young guitarist who hated all music without a solo in it, but I grew out of them pretty quickly. However, Joe Satriani will always have a place in my heart, he's just as talented as them, but so much more musical. He shows off, sure, but it isn't mindless wankery. Plus, his tone is gorgeous, reminds me of a less Punk version of J. Mascis. I've also been on a Low, Yes, and Horace Silver kick. Wintertime was mostly Hip-Hop for me, but it looks like I'm getting a little jazzy and proggy for the summer. I have a newborn and while he loves the bass, I figure the proggy and jazzy is better for relaxing him.
It's summer, and summer means music like Yo La Tengo. One of my favorite songs by them and I'm actually reading a book about them and the rise of Indie Rock, which has been very interesting so far. It's also been a Crocodiles kind of week.
I just recently decided to dive into them further, I had a copy of I Can Feel The Heart and Nothing Turned, but picked up Fade, Summer Sun, Pain, and I Am Not Afraid recently, and they're amazing. I think I Am Not Afraid came out far ahead as their best album for me, it's crazy how much they can change up their sound over the course of one album.
I Am Not Afraid is one of my favorites. Summer Sun is my favorite, followed by ...and then nothing turned itself inside out, then I am not afraid of you and I will kick your ass. I've been meaning to delve into more of their 90s catalog but haven't had the time recently. I also have this incredible live recording of them playing with the Sun Ra Arkestra.
I still wish I could've gone in the early 90's when they toured with The Dead Milkmen, but unfortunately I wasn't 21 yet. What a show that would've been. I've been trying to get my hands on that massive set they did where people would call in covers for them to do and they would record them live. Yo La Tengo Is Murdering The Classics
Thanks for reminding me I have Cave Story somewhere in my backlog, I haven't thought of that game in a long time. I need to stop jumping around and actually finish games...
Cave Story holds a weird, special place in my heart. Cave Story came out in 2004, back when Steam, and, subseqently, PC gaming, was still a digital Wild West. I was also very, very young, so my choice of games always came down to a google search that involved what genre I wanted, and the word "free". So I didn't realize what a great game I had stumbled upon until about 2 hours into playing it. Mechanically, Cave Story is, in my opinion, pretty much perfect. Pixel took jumping and shooting and made sure both were air-tight. Then there was more than enough content to make the game worth multiple playthroughs, and that doesn't even include the craziness that is Hell, which has one of the best songs in any dungeon I've ever played. The fact that it holds up today is the icing on the cake. The fact that it came out 10 years ago boggles my mind.
Miss Li - I Finally Found It Mostly this song but also all of her others. She has 8 albums since 2006 with a new one coming out this year so there are a lot of them.
Drum and bass anyone? Etherwood's new hospital mixtape has gotten this firmly stuck in my head:
The Preatures - Is this How You Feel?
Saw this crew at Bowery Ballroon. Real great vibe. The lead singer has great stage presence.
Alt J - Hunger of the Pine
Going to catch these guys on their North American Tour shortly after the release of their new album This is all Yours. Hunger of the pine is their first single off the album.
Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal
In elementary school music class the tune to teach what a round is is Row Your Boat. I propose teachers start using this song instead.
