Normally I'm not a fan of the 80's Neoclassical Shredders (ie. Yngwie Malmsteen and Michael Angelo Batio). I used to be as a young guitarist who hated all music without a solo in it, but I grew out of them pretty quickly. However, Joe Satriani will always have a place in my heart, he's just as talented as them, but so much more musical. He shows off, sure, but it isn't mindless wankery. Plus, his tone is gorgeous, reminds me of a less Punk version of J. Mascis. I've also been on a Low, Yes, and Horace Silver kick. Wintertime was mostly Hip-Hop for me, but it looks like I'm getting a little jazzy and proggy for the summer. I have a newborn and while he loves the bass, I figure the proggy and jazzy is better for relaxing him.
