This has the same premise as #hubskimusicclub but instead of trading physical disks, swapping digital playlists with another user will be the focus.
IMPORTANT: Playlists are to be sent to me through Hubski mail. I will then create a post containing all playlists organized by the pairs that have been created.
PLEASE SEND ME YOUR PLAYLISTS. 14/17 playlists are currently submitted to me through mail.
Note: If the YouTube playlist creator is not working for you, try using http://www.youtubeplaylist.org/

Im keen for this! But I was thinking, what if we focused on one playlist a day/every few days and then talked about it (or something). Its kinda like a book club, only we listen to a playlist or an album together. Since this is still a small community we can have a signup sheet where people can pick days to posts albums or playlists. Im thinking of this as im tying it, so there might be some problems, but it seems like something fun we could do while taking advantage of this small community.
I think these could be two separate events in and of themselves. A #musicclub and a#musicswap. #musicclub could be a weekly or monthly discussion of a different album. Since Hubski uses a two-tag system, we could even have different clubs for different genres. So the new album by Danny Brown could have a post post with #musicclub and #hiphop. That allows for more dicussion from people with different tastes. And different people could head up genres they're interesting in.
Yeah that sounds fun. I was just throwing the idea out there for everyone. One problem I can think of is that Im not sure how much discussion we would have over a single playlist. Iv never done something like this before so Im not sure. But yeah, I just like the idea of swapping music and finding new artists haha.
Sure thing! I'm not sure if you're into Spotify or Hip-Hop, but this is my Essential HipHop playlist. I haven't updated it in a while because I've switched from Spotify to Rdio (better UI and music discovery options), but I'd say it's pretty good for giving people who are adverse to hiphop an idea of what the genre is capable of. When it comes down to it, it's like any other genre -- some of it is serious, some of it is fun, some of it is terrible, and some of it is fantastic. Let me know what you think! Speaking of Rdio, here's one more: my Chill Vibes playlist. 8 hours of music to zone out or work to!
I tend to use Grooveshark when I use online music services. I'm more into indie/folk rock, but throw in whatever you like. I think what I'm going to do is require it to be a playlist that is around or less than an hour long. I'll create a thread if we can get more people in on this. EDIT: Another good idea would be to have everyone send their mixes to me, then I could post them in a thread so that everyone can listen to each other's music.
Awesome! If anything, I could message some of the staff and see if they could participate to cause this to gain some traction. I think I'm going to head to bed, I'll be on tomorrow. Hopefully others find this idea interesting enough to participate.
add me! current music interests include: early electronic pioneers, fuzzy surf rock
A few friends and I have been doing something similar to this for awhile. Each week, a different person shares a playlist, that they find interesting. It might be a genre sampler, a theme, or just stuff that they've been listening to lately. The only guideline we really had was that songs shouldn't be stuff that pretty much everyone already knows; our focus was on discovering new things, things that the playlist creator liked that we'd not have found otherwise. It's great because you feel obligated to listen to the playlist that they made, even if it's not exactly your thing, and it opens you up to a lot of new music. I'd certainly be up for this, either as a swap, or as a album-club-style one playlist a week that we all listen to sort of thing.
Sounds great, I'll check that out, thanks. As a quick question re: the rules though. Am I supposed to stick to one genre? This seems to indicate so, but one genre only feels really restrictive, assuming that most people listen to music in more than one genre.
4. List the genre while sending it to me.
Yes, you are supposed to stick to one genre. I feel as if it would be awkward to transition from one genre to another in the span of just 8-12 songs.one genre only feels really restrictive, assuming that most people listen to music in more than one genre.
That's why we'll hold these swaps every other week. You can post your favorite genres over time, which will help keep this little community alive. I have no plans for #musicswap to be a one time type of deal.
I'm down. Is there a limit on how long/short the playlist should be?
Last post of the night for me, I'm way too addicted to Hubski. Yes, there is a limit. The maximum it should be is two hours due to the fact that this is meant to be a view into another person's taste in music, not their entire library. I will personally keep my playlists around an hour long. Another backing reason for this is that most free file hosting services have a limit, and we don't want that to be a hindrance to our swaps.
