thenewgreen, sitting at his counter, headphones on, raised his arms triumphantly after track two and proclaimed, "holy fuck, this is good." I've been in such a dark and dismal place these past few weeks. I'm deep in the depths of just trying to stay afloat in waters that I never thought I'd be treading in. Trading one corporate master for another. Fuck. After the third song I laughed triumphantly and my wife raised her head from behind the back of the couch and looked at me like I am crazy. -I am. I said to her, "this, this is what I was born to do." "You change your mind all the time," she said. I replied, "But, really... I don't. It's always music. It's the constant." She's referring to the various startups I create. I am pathologically creating business ideas. But music (and Hubski) are the only ones that I've never considered a "business." Anyways. I'm digging listening to this. It's brought some clarity to a dismal situation. Even if I have to slang crap for corporate america for the rest of my life, I'll always have the music I make. This weekend I will record. A lot. veen, I should have shouted out to you and flagamuffin. Have a listen.
You have dreams, and you have passion, and that's more than what most people in this world have and is worth more than what most people do have. I seriously respect that you were able to say "this is what I was born to do" and that you're able to recognize what it is you truly love doing.
Thanks man. I wish I would have been braver as a younger man to pursue the arts with more conviction. EDIT: Man... check out 23:29 Damn.
Do you have the opportunity to get out and play / is that something you can make happen in the future? I dunno, you seem super busy but maybe there's a way to go out and perform if you're not already doing that. First impression: Enjoyed this album a lot, it feels like a natural progression from The Whole Love and the second half of the album carries a lot of lyrical weight with some unpredictable instrumentation to strengthen that fact. Taste the Ceiling onwards is a trip. My favorite three tracks are likely: Where Do I Begin, Magnetized, and Taste the Ceiling in that order. But Cold Slope and Random Name Generator are close and this will likely switch with more listens. Edit: Listened to Where Do I Begin four times now...this song is a work of art. I need to some music writing this weekend too. Damn.
And to add to their awesomeness, I received this email. (you likely did too) http://us8.campaign-archive1.com/?u=d3efb499fdbfa1b83a1a103c9&id=d5c7e5dcd1&e=90c188e8bc
Hey man, this is fucking great. Some people just are this way about music. I think I'm with you on that feeling. Hope you get some nice recordings in, and send 'em our way. Edit: Oh, shit. This is good.
JEFF TWEEDY WHAT ARE YOU DOING. CAN'T WAIT TO LISTEN TO THIS.
