Wow, this is killer. Thanks for sharing, no way I would have found out about this otherwise.
Yes please. Would you say that this is a good place to start? (Taken from r/oceangrunge). Reminds me a lot of a much more intense version of vaporwave.
_refugee_ this remix of Shake It Off is straight fire. Also Myster Skull's album released when I wasn't looking. I don't remember who I linked it to in one of these threads over the summer, but...yeah, get excited for that. Haven't been able to listen to it yet. Other than that I've had RTJ2 on repeat for about 2 weeks now, and when not that, switching to 1989. Paitiently waiting on Lupe's mixtape...I tried Nothing Was the Same but Drake just doesn't do it for me.
My lizard really likes RTJ2. But he also got really excited when I played the collected works of Buddy Holly while I was cooking yesterday, so I don't know. Maybe he just likes sound. Which is weird, because I'm fairly sure he doesn't have ears.
Foxes' cover of "Don't Stop Me Now" is fantastic, and hopefully you can enjoy it even if you don't watch Doctor Who (which the cover was sung for.)
I'm in choir, so I really enjoy Pentatonix's a cappella covers.
I have been watching Pentatonix clapping tutorial. Now I need 5 people to practice with. Hubski?
Pentatonix are awesome! Also Fleet Foxes are Awesomee!!! So I pretty much died when I first heard this piece. The first bit of Christmas music I've actually enjoyed in a while. (Band and choir have made almost every normal carol or hymn unimaginably dull for me.)
Pentatonix is a marvelously refreshing group, I'm so glad that I know about them. And I completely know what you mean about the hymns and carols! (My choir is currently learning a 3rd version of Gloria...)
For veteran's day, here's "Khe Sanh" by Cold Chisel and the mighty Jimmy Barnes :
I left my heart to the sappers round Khe Sanh
And my soul was sold with my cigarettes to the blackmarket man
I've had the Vietnam cold turkey
From the ocean to the Silver City
And it's only other vets could understand
About the long forgotten dockside guarantees
How there were no V-day heroes in 1973
How we sailed into Sydney Harbour
I saw an old friend but couldn't kiss her
And she was lined, and I was home to a lucky land
She was like so many more from that time on
Their lives were all so empty, until they found their chosen one
And their legs were often open
But their minds were always closed
And their hearts were held in fast suburban chains
And the legal pads were yellow, hours long, paypacket lean
And the telex writers clattered where the gunships once had been
But the car parks made me jumpy
And I never stopped the dreams
Or the growing need for speed and novacaine
So I worked across the country from end to end
Tried to find a place to settle down,
Where my mixed up life could mend
Held a job on an oil-rig
Flying choppers when I could
But the nightlife nearly drove me round the bend
And I've travelled round the world from year to year
And each one found me aimless, one more year the worse for wear
And I've been back to South East Asia
You know the answer sure ain't there
But I'm drifting north, to check things out again
You know the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone
Only seven flying hours, and I'll be landing in Hong Kong
There ain't nothing like the kisses
From a jaded Chinese princess
I'm gonna hit some Hong Kong mattress all night long
Well the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone
Yeah the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone
And it's really got me worried
I'm goin' nowhere and I'm in a hurry
And the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone
Well I'm not sure how you guys like Knife Party but they just released their new album. My favorite being Boss mode.
On a calmer note, Glass Animals is another one and its a little difficult to describe them so I'm just going to use some tags from 8tracks: slow jams, indiepop, chill electro, chill vibes, and feel good. Chill vibes and feel good are probably the best to describe them but enough talk, here's the link to several of their songs.
Wow, Glass Animals is super smooth! Thanks for sharing!
Shapeshifter - In Colour
Worth watching as well as listening.
If you could take the slate and wipe it clean
Set all the parts adrift upon the sea
With the incoming tide we breath again
Let all the colour ignite tonight.
Thin chain lock to keep the world out, she held her breath till it was gone Standing naked in front of that hotel bathroom mirror, In her dysphoria's affection, she still saw her mother's son.Night time at the hotel, there was fighting in the hall
I saw Lures play in a basement here last night and it was a great show. A cool surfy/slacker band not far off from the likes of Real Estate and Beach Fossils, and they covered Del Shannon which made my night. Really nice guys too.
Gary Thomas - Contraption Distoria This an excellent acoustic album I found on Bandcamp. The guy has a the perfect voice for his style and his guitar work is very nice. Also, top marks for arrangement. Zara McFarlane - Police & Thieves An oh so smooth jazz cover of this reggae classic. A lovely little groover. Nik Bärtsch's Ronin - Modul 47 This self-prescribed 'Zen Funk' band produce some of the best music I've ever heard. It's like naturally evolving, minimal free ambient funk jazz (patent pending). There's bundles of character and it oozes groove. Some absolutely fantastic musicianship. GoGo Penguin - Kamaloka A jazz trio from Manchester, UK. This album was named as one of the Mercury Prize albums of the year. A really great sound that draws on a range of classic and modern influences to synthesis a unique flavour of their own.
KC Accidental - Is and Of The If anybody's into Broken Social Scene or any of those bands from Arts & Crafts in Canada, this might be up your alley. Warning: it's a long and slow one.
