Dated a girl whose dad worked with the homeless and at-risk. He had a client that survived on light beer alone for 20 years. Then he needed an angioplasty and in order to do that, they needed to get his vitals up. So they checked him into a hospital to detox off alcohol. Dude lived 18 hours. 49 years old. Just 'cuz you're not dead yet don't mean it ain't comin'.
Recently I saw a recipe for pizza with a cauliflower crust. I think you can go relatively healthy with pizza variants. However, just plain cheese pizza? I can't fathom it. The last time I had pizza was January 18th. I can't tell you the next time I will have it again.
Whaaaat?! Girl, you need to live a little. Pizza is proof that life is good. It's the greatest food ever invented. Good pizza is heaven, and shitty pizza is still pizza. But I agree that cheese pizza is the biggest let down known to man. What's the point, even? Well, unless it's a really good mix of cheeses, but I don't think that's what we're talking about here. The last time I had pizza was January 18th. I can't tell you the next time I will have it again.
LOL I am just not that big on pizza. I remember at the Hubski meetup - not sure if you were still with us at this point - we left the (second) bar and went next door to get pizza. By which I mean, mk ecib Meriadoc and thenewgreen got pizza, while I declined and took pictures of them eating. (Sorry if I am forgetting anyone else who was there. wasoxygen I know you were there that night but I don't remember if you got pizza.) So that was back in...what, November/December? That was probably my last "close encounter" with pizza before January 18th.(Footnote) (Footnote): If you find it peculiar that I can remember the date with such precision, don't worry, I do too. I am able to pinpoint it because I got pizza in Philadelphia on the same day I went to an art museum (Surrealist exhibit!) and I know the date of the exhibit. It always interests me when people can remember terribly mundane things easily. I usually cannot at all.
I read somewhere that the potato introduced to Ireland (of Potato Famine fame) was a nutritionally complete potato, in that it had a bunch of vitamins and protein in addition to carbohydrates. I guess there's a whole lot of potato varieties, but the ones that spread around the world were the most stable and consistent. And white.
Yeah, that's some commitment. I've watched the whole episode and basically a bunch of doctors make her touch a tomato while she gags. Progressively she tries other foods and agrees on a more diverse diet. 10 days later she is still sticking to her new diet but still craves the potatoes, problem solved! (If only it were that easy in real life, i always wonder how good they are doing a year down the road)
Doesn't seem like he's doing so hot after all. Although if he weren't limiting himself to cheese only, I think he could do pretty well on pizza alone. It comes with damn near everything on it now. Although I'd say he's right about pizza not getting old. Even if it's just cheese pizza, there's a lot of variety. You can get garbage at Pizza Hut or Papa John's, but there's a lot more to pizza and people forget that. Pizza is art. Not all pizza is, but it is. Look at the depth in Jeff Varasano's page. A skillfully made pizza has so much going on with only three components that it can easily keep your palate occupied for weeks on end.He swerved off the road and totaled the vehicle, but besides from that isolated incident, his pizza diet seems to be working out for him.
As someone who also has to deal with - I guess, "sensitive" blood sugar - but nothing as extreme as passing out while driving - his problem is probably more from the simple carbohydrates of the crust than anything else. However, especially if he started making it by hand or started eating whole-grain crust pizza, I suppose his problem could be somewhat ameliorated. As for whether or not pizza can get old, I don't know. I don't get the love some people have for pizza. I could take it or leave it, really. Admittedly, I would like to try and make my own from scratch, I think that would be fun.Although if he weren't limiting himself to cheese only, I think he could do pretty well on pizza alone
That pizza looks amazing! I really need to get into more artisan and delicious pizza making. I make a decent tomato pie but a pizza like that is an entirely decent beast. Reminds me of this post which is an excellent post about making pizza.
