I've spent this month catching up, like I usually do. ButterflyEffect, BrainBurner -- thanks a ton for the work you put into your lists. I didn't hear enough music to make a list myself, but a totally informal bunch of links to albums from 2014 everyone ought to hear would include: Alvvays by Alvvays; Bury Me at Makeout Creek by Mitski; Our Love by Caribou; Everything Will Be Alright in the End by Weezer; and Never Hungover Again by Joyce Manor. Not nearly as good a year for tunes as 2013, but of course every year has its share of great stuff.
No problem. Like Butterfly said, I'm just happy people read it!
I'm just glad somebody read it! Hold up though. We went from this to including it on your year end list? You must have liked the rest of it a lot. Or just felt it was important enough to listen to anyway.
Revisiting Comfy because today I learned that they made Rolling Stones 10 Best Cassettes of 2014 list. Probably the best accolade any of my friends bands have received to date.
My wife gave me two records for Christmas, the first was She and Him's Christmas album, which I could take or leave. The second was Tweedy's Suckierae -it's my favorite album of 2014
I've got a Chet Atkins Christmas album that's been on high rotation of late. I'm glad you dug Sukierae, I think it has the best and most effective opening track I've heard. It's so damned appealing and just short enough to leave you wanting more. What a great way to open an album IMO. I could go on and on about that record, I've been listening to it quite a lot.
I've been on a Damien Rice kick lately -- you know him?Rice began his musical career as a member of the 1990s rock group Juniper, which were signed to Polygram Records in 1997. The band enjoyed moderate success with a couple of single releases, but a projected album foundered because of record company politics. After leaving the band he worked as a farmer in Tuscany and busked throughout Europe before returning to Ireland in 2001 and beginning a solo musical career.
There is a lot of unreleased Onyabor, get it here http://flashstrap.blogspot.com/2011/10/fantastic-man-william-onyeabor-atomic.html Pick up my mix tap of the year while you are there http://flashstrap.blogspot.com/2011/03/kosmische-gehackt-und-geschraubt-flash.html
Confession: I let hubski find most of my classical music for me, outside of things I know are good by virtue of performance
I've been listening to songs that mean a lot to me lately and/or I really like the lyrics of.
I also regressed somewhat:
