I'm fairly new to Hubski (yes, I rode in on the freshest wave of AskRedditors. Sorry about the ol' Reddit hug-of-death) and I'm just learning the ropes and finding out about the community. This place is fantastic and I really enjoy the aggregation system.
Do we have a lot of Aussies here? And how global are we in general? Where is everyone from?
To kick things off, I'm from Melbourne, Australia.
Toronto Canada. insomniasexx - we've done a few "where are you from?" surveys since I've been on. I wonder if you can dig one of them up and post it in the next hubski newsletter. The last one was a while ago, so we may have all moved.
In order to save others the trouble of looking for the original question almost a year ago: here it is
Ahoy-hoy! I'm from Sydney but I live in San Francisco now. I've never really found fault in my homeland (at least no more than in any other country), but America is a horse of a different colour. The sheer number of crazy people here is exhilarating. If it can happen, it will happen in America. It's also true that if you're a little bit unusual, you get much better treatment if you're also a foreigner. In Australia if you're different you'll get mocked for it, and in America if you're different you're liable to get lynched, but if you're an Australian in America then people say, "Oh he's allowed to be strange, he's English." I do kind of miss the good-natured mockery and irreverence though. America is slowly eroding my sense of irony.

You are obviously surrounding yourself with the wrong americans.
Are you going to be in on the Blood Meridian reading for the #hubskibookclub?is there any question to which the answer isn't spending more time on Hubski?
-There are times when I feel that spending more time here would be next to impossible :)
We should be starting any day now. 11 days ago Meriadoc said we'd have a week/half to get the book and then we'd start. My book is set to arrive tomorrow and I plan on diving in this weekend. -I'm really looking forward to it.
Hmmm... does Conan know of you Banjolele skills? My guess is that Max Weinberg couldn't resist the opportunity to collaborate with you there.
I'm in metro vancouver, but I may as well start to have an australian sleep schedule now .
Yup, Vancouver Canada, in the good ol' fraser valley.
Melbourne here too. The voting system looks cool
I live in Los Angeles, and I've been on Hubski for a few months. I came here from an earlier mention on Reddit. I like the clean interface, the focus on community and pure text, the sense of getting new fields of discussion all the time.
I'm in LA now but when I discovered Husbki I was living in Sydney (surry hills). I wish I was back in Australia especially with US winters fast approaching. :( Can I live vicariously through you for your summer?
I'm from Ireland. Most Hubski users, as you might expect, seem to be from the States. I'm pretty sure Lu is from Australia, though.
I'd say 19% of users here are from the United States, 10% from Canada, 41% from the United Kingdom, 13% from Australia, 11% from Romania, and 6% from the rest of the world. I am part of the 19% that are from the United States.
I used Alexa.com and based the percentages off reddit and Hubski. It's only speculation, though. I'm just hoping somehow the actual statistics are revealed to see how close I am.
From what I can tell about "active" contributors to discussions, it's 19% Detroit. 35% North Carolina (thenewgreen) and 25% California (kleinbl00) As for 10% Canada, that's mostly theadvancedapes who is very active on these pages. He's from Toronto, but currently - what ho? in Brussels. It must be Tuesday.
Sorry about that. I'll try to be more serious. It all depends who populates your feed I guess. There's dark and dirty corners of hubski that I never visit. For example, any tags that say #reddit never enter my feed. I also muted #circlejerk - I've always found that term kind of creepy.
That's 'cuz mk & thenewgreen have this idea that you should follow people, rather thank tags and I think if you look up "popular" on the page you end up following those who already have too many followers. By way of perspective I'm following three people, but like 20 tags.
I'm all for following tags, I think it's a great way to discover people. In my opinion the best way to use the site would be to follow a good number of tags that interest you and then begin introducing people to your feed.
