Ahoy-hoy! I'm from Sydney but I live in San Francisco now. I've never really found fault in my homeland (at least no more than in any other country), but America is a horse of a different colour. The sheer number of crazy people here is exhilarating. If it can happen, it will happen in America.

It's also true that if you're a little bit unusual, you get much better treatment if you're also a foreigner. In Australia if you're different you'll get mocked for it, and in America if you're different you're liable to get lynched, but if you're an Australian in America then people say, "Oh he's allowed to be strange, he's English."

I do kind of miss the good-natured mockery and irreverence though. America is slowly eroding my sense of irony.
