Last week was awesome as usual. Thanks.
My rec: eponymous 2012 album by Home Brew -- New Zealander hip hop. Smooth stuff, I'm a big fan of it. The other thing I listened to this week was This Is Our Science, Astronautalis' most recent album.
Been listening to a lot of Mac Demarco 2 lately. Also, this producer/DJ guy called Samiyam who's signed to Brainfeeder. He makes pretty dope ¿glitch-hop? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgj7ewIV1BA
Dope music man, especially the Mac Demarco guy that was real good.
Whoa. It only took a few seconds for that Mac Demarco one to hook me.
I have nothing this week, except for this, which I haven't been able to get out of my head. It's an old classic, but man I love it. It's slow, but just so perfect. Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms. Loved them when I was younger, but an episode of West Wing with this song in it got it stuck in my head again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5JkHBC5lDs Bonus Romeo and Juliet...
Close. Season 2 finale episode. With the rain, and he's going to that press conference. Such a badass scene. One of the better things I've ever seen on television. Not spoiling because I know thenewgreen got hooked on West Wing recently. :)
Have you seen the ending to S4, with Massive Attack playing in the background for ten minutes? kleinbl00 linked it in the thread about best uses of music in movies/tv a few months ago, back when I was only in the middle of season two, and I raced through the next thirty episodes to get to it -- worth it.
Yeah, I've seen all seasons before, going back through them again now, just started S4 yesterday so I'll be there soon. :)
I've been re-listening to songs from the Cambodian Rocks compilation. One of the songs I really like from it is (apparently) called Ram Chea Mouy Nung Twist.
I enjoyed some Umphrey's McGee today - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ml5FxpirGwg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3JjlkfX5Gk Dispatch. Nothing new but I've been listening to them
If you like NZ hip hop, you might be interested in the grand-daddy of that genre, Supergroove (with the amazing Che Fu on vocals) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gEy2FJ_AiA
Revisited Razia's Shadow: A Musical by Forgive Durden (and a host of featured artists). I forgot what an amazing album this is. The story is moving and interesting, the instrumentation and music is really cool... It's definitely one of my all-time favorites.
The new KMDFM. "Nothing new, it's the same old shit; if it works this good why fuck with it?" The new Purient Iron Fist of the Sun's Behavioral Decline. I'd only listened to it once and dismissed it, I think because his Princess Di obsession made me think it was a joke band. The track I linked came up on shuffle, prompting me to give the album another shot, and I'm glad it did.
I've been listening to Satellite High today, an underground rapper from San Francisco. My friend posted the link to this song after it was featured on Welcome to Night Vale, a podcast that really deserves its own Hubski post.
our hero finds himself waiting for the bus in the rain (in the rain) once again and bides his time with an internal monologue the bus is late, as is common on such a rainy day, and the narrator amuses himself as best he can but soon begins to spiral into a vortex of doubt and anxiety about the whereabouts of his ride home Fantastic.[THE BUS CYCLE: PART ONE]
Did I miss week 10 or didn't you listen to any music this week? No worries, I'll just have more to say when you do post. Was a good week for me.
It will just make for an even longer list of music for us next week. Should be a good Sunday.
Been trying to listen to some more trumpet tunes lately. I played one for a few years. Can't get enough of this tune by the Squirrel Nut Zippers. The top comment says it all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8DXgk4-CcU For some older smoother stuff, I've been listening to some Miles Davis stuff too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N090STPx-2M I've also been listening to Streetlight Manifesto's Somewhere in Between. I listened to the album they released before this one a lot, as I was actually in a ska band when it came out, and haven't given this one the listening it deserves. They are fantastic as always. Here's the full albume. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luSfeLzioCc
I can never stay away for long. I've been rerere(x many)revisiting P-Funk. Flashlight, Endangered Species, Give Up the Funk
Yeah, it's pretty difficult. There are a few compilation albums that make it a bit easier to have a good picture of them over the times. I recommend Tear the Roof Off 1974-1980.
New Youth Lagoon album just came out this week. Stream here.
For the first time in a LONG time, I listened to "Mr. Bungle". Squeeze Me Macaroni
Last couple days had me going over Television's "Marquee Moon" a few times (the whole album, not just the single). And Tom Petty's Greatest Hits. What is it about that guy? It's like a biological imperative that I have to listen to him every couple years. You could probably map my age and where I am in life by how many times I've had to come back to Tom Petty, and by which song I obsess over each successive time.
Shit I forgot about this. My computer broke last week so I haven't been able to listen to a lot of music lately. What I have been listening though is some old albums that I have on my ipod. First of is good old Bonobo, I actually didn't know what song to link cause the whole album is beautiful. You can't go wrong with Aphex Twin. And some Dan Deacon
I just attempted to search hubski for a post by thenewgreen, a pitchfork.tv behind the scenes look at Deacon's production for, I think, America. I couldn't find it and ended up making a bug post instead because something weird happened w/search. Maybe you or thenewgreen would have better luck; it's a great 30-minute watch. New Bonobo album next month.
Yeah super excited about new Bonobo, the last songs have been pretty good. That documentary definetly looks interesting, Dan Deacon is very interesting musician. Thanks for the link!
A friend shared this with me; I dig it.
Listen to the whole album, or at least the second half cause it's really good.
I have been listening to a "fuzz folk" band called GASHCAT. They recorded their first album on a boat and remind me a lot of Neutral Milk Hotel, very enjoyable! Also, check out this electronic band called The Soft Greens. He started his solo work after Loose Lips Sink Ships broke up, another really good local (for me!) math rock band.
I listened to the <span><a title="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdacUyrgK6M" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdacUyrgK6M>The Soft Bulletin</a>~ today all the way through, that was nice. I went for a run this weekend and listened to <span><a title="http://www.allmusic.com/album/write-your-own-history-mw00004..." href="http://www.allmusic.com/album/write-your-own-history-mw00004... Music</a>~'s Write Your Own History -A great album. -Get it and check out the song "I'm Tired". Love that tune.
