I feel like the fact that swerve is an option and the assumption is that only the people in the other lane will die proves this was written by city people.

Philosophy is all about parsing complex decisions into binary choices.

That's why everyone mocks philosophy.

They also seem to take simple concepts and make them sound complex as fuxk, so it really seems to go both ways.

(Source, took an ethics class in college and finished more confused about ethics than when I started.)

My ethics class in college could basically be summed up with: Things aren't black and white, there will always be a grey area, but stepping into that area could cost you a lot of fucking money so just pretend they're black and white.

I always thought it was funny how one could be completely immoral but ethical at the same time.

First thought was that other than the elderly the person could just move out of the way of the oncoming vehicle. I mean it's a few steps in either direction to safety for all those people.

Even if true, wouldn't rural/suburban area provide much easier options to avoid killing anyone? You are suddenly not inside what's basically a corridor of buildings.

I don't know, car carries five people, breaks fail. You can:

- Crash on the nearby barrier.

- Kill a jaywalking child.

- Turn right and go into the mellioration ditch and slightly damage the car.

That's hardly a moral decision that I would expect of Hubski!

When people panic and swerve they don't always end up were they intend to swerve too. Only swerve for moose and hope for the best.

Well, yes. But it's not about a human driver. Or did I got you wrong and you meant other people, ones that would be picked as 'target', panicking and running around?

When I say the people can move I mean the people who see a car speeding at them can run away. Funny because I get the self driving car reference now but before I wondered why they were to lazy to draw a driver in the car.
