yeah, me too. It sucks. We find new and creative ways to filter the overt spam and then some awful SEO company finds a new way to spam Hubski. I suppose it's a bit of a compliment. Like, we've arrived.
mk, rob05c, insomniasexx and forwardslash are all very good at strategizing as to how to best code up a defense. Me? I'm no coder. I literally take the time to write the businesses they're spamming on behalf of and ask the following:
Have you worked hard to build your business? I bet it would suck if someone continuously called your phone line, emailed you or harassed you. That's exactly what someone is doing to Hubski.com on YOUR BEHALF [insert link] -If you have any integrity, you will ask that they cease doing this on your behalf. We have worked hard to build Hubski, just like you've worked hard to build your business.
-My way is far less effective than mk, insomniasexx, rob05c and forwardslash's way, but it's all I have.
I love the way cgod deals with spammers. I literally get a big shit-eating grin when I see one of his comments towards them.
All this to say, we at Hubski appreciate your helping us ward off the spammers. Also, if you think we do a pretty damn good job of keeping them at bay for the most part, then feel free to DONATE
Already have donated? Second time is a charm :) We are a quarter of the year in and we have a long way to go to hit our goal. Our intention is NOT to make any money, it is to keep Hubski sustainable. All of us that work on Hubski (and it's a good deal of work) have professional jobs that we take time away from to do this. There is an opportunity cost to this and we aren't even factoring that in to the Hubski donation goal. It's purely servers and swag. So please, if you can help by donating. It does a great deal towards helping us reach our goal AND feel appreciated for our efforts.
Hubski takes time. Lots of it. But we do love it here, don't we? I know I do.
We have a number of cool things in the works that I'm excited to share with you.
I appreciate all of the participation in #meethubski and the new #adayinthelife. I look forward to more of them both.
Have a great week. Unless you're a spammer, in which case I hope you have an awful week, eat shit and.... -Strike that, they're just trying to get by like everyone else. But seriously spammers, just stop.
Be well Hubski.

That's awesome, and thank you and everyone else who actually tags stuff spam. The greatest part is that you all seem to do so very accurately. It's extremely helpful. I use the all post feed, global, often and therefore see the good the bad and the ugly.
There was a time though when the spam was so prolific and quickly appearing that mk, myself and forwardslash were all manually deleting dozens of posts a minute. Whack a mole Style. That's when we added the "I'm not a robot" step to account creation.
Good on ya. That's why the tools are there. But, let's say you're a newbie and looking for people to follow. You hit up the global feed and see walls of spam. Not cool. It happens. Hard to dissuade.
I think the solution is that newbies are automatically filtering #spam
What about unregistered users? I have browsed reddit for almost a year unregistered before deciding to create an account. I'm not sure if people here do the same but I did that for a few weeks before creating this account.
- I haven't noticed it
Dude, that's awesome. Thanks Ben. I would gladly give Hubski some of my tax return, because it's $-7k
Thanks Obama.
