Just hit record and make something. Don't think. Here is my result
1. Hit record and then started playing rhythm guitar
2. Hit record and started recording background vox
3. Hit record and started recording second harmony background vox
4. Hit record and recorded clean electric guitar
5. Hit record and recorded distorted electric
6. Bass
7. Recorded vocals that sing lyrics that I made up on the fly (don't judge)
Nothing was pre-planned, all just on the fly. The result is a fun experience and music challenge. Never is there more than one pass at each track. I did allow myself to fade in and out a track and raise/lower levels and add reverb/eq here and there.
Anyone want to take a stab at recording their own such track? The cool thing is that there's nothing to feel self-conscious about... it literally SHOULD sound bad. It's fun.
Shoutout to the songwriters: OftenBen, T-Dog, ghostoffuffle, rezzeJ, ButterflyEffect, jonaswildman, mrjasonetaylor, theholywombat, galen, coffeesp00ns and anyone else I'm forgetting or who is up for sharing something they come up with on the fly.
It's an interesting way to make something.
So I cheated slightly and redid a vocal take halfway through the track. However, if I had not I would not have uploaded it so I made that compromise, sorry. I did make up the vocals on the fly again on the second take though. Here's the link: 'Find You Here' It's made up of two guitar tracks and one vocal with said retake.
This is really pretty and haunting. Great work, especially given the parameters of the challenge. I have a faulty cable that I was accidentally using for the bass. About 1/4 way through it started popping and dropping out. I stopped, changed the chord and began again. So, in a way I broke the rules too. Though, it didn't change much. I'm glad you shared this, thanks for participating.
Thanks man, it's my favourite key to play in so I know my way around the potential progressions and the like pretty well. I do want to make more singer/songwriter type recordings but I'm just not confident enough in my lyrics. I'm reasonably comfortable with my actual singing (which is usually substantially better than it appears here), but it just feels like I have nothing to say.
Okay, I've spent the last 3+ days stumbling through febrile hell. Still not out of the woods yet. So careful what you wish for, TNG. This is what I got. It's not a song, barely even music. Okay, back to staring into the middle distance and trying to appreciate the irony of catching something over the first weekend my wife's had off in over six months. That rattle is either my chest or romance dying for good.
Please, pretty please let me add to this. If you are okay with that, make it downloadable and send me a reply comment with the code words Whoop-a-wing, look-up-here But if you'd rather fly solo, that's totally cool too. I immediately started scribing lyrics upon listening to it, but it's likely just the wine talking.... I hope your wife feels better. Romance, it comes back when it's needed most. Being sick doesn't preclude you from random acts of awesomeness. Be awesome, chances are she deserves this. Note to self: Take your own advice for once asshole, hypocrite much?
Tell my wife, TNG- I'm the one that's sick, not her. I knew the reference without even clicking the link, god how I love that movie. Downloads enabled. Go for it.
I'm the one that's sick, not her.
Man up, punk. Just kidding, I hope you feel better pal.
I had a go in DADGAD tuning, I don't have a recording setup so just used my webcam's microphone, so apologies for the quality. The only edits I made was a fade in and fade out at the end. I find it much harder improvising singing than I do guitar. Link here
Channelling your inner Nick Drake. This is great
It's almost two am but I'm surprisingly happy with how track song turned out for everything being a one take. The vocals kind of reminded me of Beach Slang which is a good thing. One take guitar and vocals, everything recorded at the same time into the Soundcloud mobile app. Lyrics were completely on the fly too. Your track is great, reminds me of something Pink Floyd might do. The layered vocals are haunting and work way too well for being a one-off thing.
Nice effort! Thanks for participating and putting yourself out there. I dig the chord progression and the passion behind it. "Who you want to be...." -Nice.
