The entire weekend is fair game for me but lets plan on Saturday, June 7th for those interested.
Museums to consider:
New England Aquarium: Pretty rad aquarium. Person I know is actually interning there right now.
Museum of Science: They do a great electricity demo and have a lot of cool exhibits.
Harvard Museum of Natural History: Really just walking around Cambridge as a whole is a good time.
Freedom Trail: Super touristy and all that but takes you through a lot places.
Museum of Fine Arts: Another great museum.
Other things to consider:
Sam Adams Tour: It's about a 20 minute tour followed by 20 minutes of drinking with more bars nearby.
Harpoon Tour: I've never done this tour because you have to get there early to get in, it seems.
GrandTen Distillery Tour: Also never done this but I've heard it's good.
Taza Chocolate Tour: I didn't even know this was a place with tours until this past weekend.
Bars to consider:
I'm partial to the Museum of Science and Aquarium, if anybody knows other things definitely bring them up here!
Shoutouts: insomniasexx, humanodon, nowaypablo, _refugee_, digi, mal-2, scrimetime, Dudley_McDanger, Demosthenes. Not sure if everyone tagged is interested, sorry if you got pinged and aren't!
Here's the flights I'm looking at: Also, _refugee_ I know we talked about staying with digi but I don't really feel like dealing with subway and commuter rail drunk. They also stop around 1am and knowing us, we'll be rocking until 5am. Does anyone have recommendations on shit cheap hotels that we can share. We mainly just need a place to leave our stuff and shower and sleep for a few hours Saturday night. Emphasis on the cheap.
Incorrect! They go until approximately 2:30am on weekends now. I know nothing about hotels in the area, maybe mal or humano can help out with that one. They also stop around 1am...
Insom, I may be able to get us to stay with my Boston friend. Last time I came up for a writing conference and my friend and I were able to crash at his place; we just had to share a bed is all. He's already offered. He lives in the city proper although we might still have to deal with public transport depending on where we are drinking. Want me to look into that?
That sounds fine. I have no qualms about sharing beds. Make sure I put shorts on before bed though. I always seem to kick them off when I fall asleep drunk. This made for an extremely awkward morning this weekend when I was sleeping on the couch of my parents' hotel room.
Fantastic news! I'll send everyone a PM and we can take it from there. I'm also going to keep an eye out on r/Bostonsocialclub since they post a sweet listing of events for every weekend and maybe there'll be some free/cheap stuff on it.
Does Boston have any good hostels? I'd consider making a roadtrip from Michigan for the weekend if I could find somewhere cool to stay. Edit to include I just found this place which seems pretty nice, not sure how close it is to all of this other stuff though.
That wouldn't be a bad place to stay! If we end up in Brookline at night it'd be a bunch of stops down the Green Line from that hostel.
So guys, some things: insomniasexx and I will be staying at an apartment overnight "close to public house" and "directly next to everyone's favorite dive bar mary annes" according to my friend. If we can arrange to end up the night near those places that would be wonderful. I don't know what those are. My friend says that subway runs late on Friday but not Saturday (and tells me not to ask) but that we could take an Uber home. If we are not near the apartment by the close of the evening. I am still determining transport into the city and arrival times. I will let y'all know.
The subway and a few bus lines run late on both Friday and Saturday nights. http://www.mbta.com/riding_the_t/default.asp?id=6442451913
I'm excited. I'm scared. I'm coming in to Boston Friday morning and leaving Sunday afternoon. I'm going to have to learn about things like public transport and getting around in a new city by myself and OMG NEW TINDER MATCHES GUYS. No but really, I truly hope this will be a great time.
Never heard of Mary Annes but dive bars are rad. If it's close to Publick House are you staying in Brookline then? I could have sworn the T and buses run late Friday and Saturday night, but not Sunday. If you break out Tinder I'm so going to judge your taste in men...and the men themselves for that matter. Stoked? Yes.
We met up and had drinks. It was fun. He lives in San Fran and is only in LA for like every other weekend. He was down last weekend when I was in North Carolina and he'll be down this weekend when I'm in Boston so...yeah. He's cool though. We text 24/7 still.
I'm much better at being clever when I can think, google, and type. :P edit: I've gotten a couple of those. Best opening line, "can you be my fuckbuddy?" I put that I only fuck after a great, deep conversation in my blurb. It's helping? I think? edit2: also, what's up with EVERY guy telling me how tall they are? I don't give a fuck. Tell me what you do for a living dork.
So tempted to badge that conversation. Must resist. I don't get offers of rough sex or being fuck buddies, must be doing something wrong...nor do I make though offers though. Wait maybe that's how I should open conversations. It all makes sense. I also don't get the pictures of fish and/or riding horses.
I liked one guy because his blurb was one line: "I get it. You've all been to Machu Picchu and ride horses." I think it just depends on what you are looking for. I found that a lot of guys have 0 information in their blurb. I always swipe left on those. I'm not going to start a conversation with a guy who wants me to start a conversation with him based on photos alone. I'm not that shallow. I don't get offers of rough sex or being fuck buddies
Since we're sharing these things: College Radio DJ, record label founder, guitarist, and foodie/beer enthusiast. Enjoy docs, French culture, and being outside. Doesn't catch fish or ride horses. Please don't kill me. RIT '15.I play with chemicals for a living. Huge into garage rock and other music.
This is mine: LA -> NYC (NYU Film / TV) -> Sydney -> LA. I love exploring, traveling, and finding places without cell service. I try to balance the glow from my computer with the glow of the sun. Skateboarding, hiking, surfing, swimming, anything. Adventure is out there. I really don't care how tall you are. I don't fuck until I have a deep conversation.Creative. Designer / front end dev / workaholic with a habit of making spontaneous and stupid decisions involving whiskey Wednesday nights. The internet is my friend.
Y'all ever been to Fire and Ice? I was in Boston last summer and tried it for the first time. I think they have a menu but the big draw is the make-your-own meal portion of it. There's tons of delicious ingredients, innumerable combinations, and they grill it all up in front of you. If I remember correctly it's a tad expensive but it's also all-you-can-eat, so go with a big appetite.
Oh that seems cool, never heard of that place. You should road trip out here if you're bored and capable that weekend!
I'd consider it but I'm occupied that weekend! I'm going to see my first NASCAR race, out in the Poconos.
Woo I'm pumped! I don't want to get my hopes up though because there is a chance I will not be able to make it depending on the demands of an internship I start in June (it's paid, I gotta make it count.) Anyway I'll keep you posted once I get clear info, looking forward to this! I will accompany any tour you guys choose, I like to explore without plans so following along is just as good.
GrandTen Distillery is a lot of fun, as is the Taza tour. Night Shift Brewing is also great. It's in Everett so not immediately in the city, but that often means smaller crowds which is a plus. It's a microbrewery with some really cool styles, and they are right next door to another smaller microbrewery in the same building.
I've heard a lot of good things about GrandTen. Is Night Shift next to Trillium? If so I know the general area of where they are. Would you be interested in joining the meetup?
So I'm making my travel plans for this weekend. If I didn't already say, I'm arriving in Boston around 10:15 AM Friday and I'll need to be at the airport around 1 p.m. Sunday. Otherwise all my days and times are open, except I have to get lunch with my friend one of the days. Let me know when you will be in town ( insomniasexx I assume not until Saturday?) and we will start making loose plans. This is the first time I will go on a plane by myself! Also, I hate travelling. Edited to add that if I have a say in it it would be cool to go to the Museum of Fine Arts.
