Hope you all had a great day! Listen to this song, really listen.
THE FLAMING LIPS BABY. Saw them live a few months ago. Now it seems like heresy to confine them to an .mp3 file.
I hear ya. I saw them in Boston a few years back and it was one hell of a show. Have you guys seen The Fearless Freaks? -Watch it:
Some other great tunes for the occasion: The Beach Boys God Only Knows Camper Van Beethoven All Her Favorite Fruit Colin Bluntstone Say You Don't Mind The Beatles I Will
That is odd. Thanks man, I promise it's not intentional. forwardslash and mk, can you check this out please?
Do You Realize is spoiler alert one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. But the contrast between everything else about the song and the lyrics is one of the most brilliant things because of how good of a job Wayne Coyne did. Great picks on the other songs, especially God Only Knows.
That's whats cool about the song is that it's so well done that it can either be one of the most inspiring and even happiest songs ever as well as the saddest given your context or state of mind. For me it's really a call to action, an invitation to recognize how important the current moment is and how lucky we are to have it. I love you man. HA! As for God Only Knows, It's the song that my wife and I met the world to as a married couple. Just some strings and guitar. -What a great tune, Carl Wilson had such a voice. I rediscovered the Camper Van Beethoven song tonight. -Good band that I've not listened to since I was a kid really.
I agree with lil, we love you too! What an incredible song. That's an equally valid interpretation of it. I really need to see them live one of these tours. The Terror was a great album too. Really?! That is awesome, what an interesting (and great, and not something that you hear at every. single. wedding.) choice for a wedding piece. I've never got too far into Camper Van Beethoven, but should give them more of a listen. Too much music on backlog.
Thanks to both you and lil, very nice to read. I posted a link below to The Fearless Freaks documentary about the Flaming Lips, if you've not seen it you ought to. It's pretty great, I think you'd dig it. Any songs to add to the V-day list?
Reply take two...tried to edit but it wasn't displaying the text after I embedded the youtube links. I'll have to watch it this weekend, three days off and nothing to do means that will probably happen. A few, yeah. First off how can you not like: Summer Twins - I Will Love You I don't know, Yo La Tengo - Our Way to Fall is oddly...happy. It's almost a somber happy, or like waking up a summer morning next to someone you love. Last, and this one is probably my favorite of the three, The Mountain Goats - San Bernadino
I love Our Way to Fall, it's beautiful. Thanks for The Mountain Goats song, I had not heard it before. I dug the string arrangement.
Gosh, wish I had read your spoiler before I watched this. I can't necessarily say that it was sad because it really made me want to go out start being a lot more thankful for all that I have. Nevertheless, it had me bawling like a baby. Beautifully written, beautifully played. I haven't listened to any of their other songs yet, but I definitely will be. Are all of their music videos that odd? I kept searching for some sort of deeply hidden symbolic meaning to everything that was happening but came up with nothing. If anyone has an idea I would love to hear the explanation.
I went out with a few of my closest friends last night. We were all single or without our significant otters for the night. We had a good time. I think if you look at the holiday as a celebration of all kinds of love not just romantic then that is the true spirit of it. Like thenewgreen . I love you all too hubski. I am looking forward to our wine tasting. I even let some people merge in front of me yesterday (waved them ahead and waited). Love was truly in the air.
I fear it might be the whole teenagerhood thing, but I find a lot of the people around me are very reluctant to the point of being repulsed about love. Except, I don't mean loving a significant "otter" (this made me laugh out loud by the way, thanks). I mean loving a detail, a moment in time or a feeling or an atmosphere I'm currently sharing with them. It doesn't seem like my friends are capable of feeling it, and they all look at me funny when I point it out. I'm not really sure what to make of it but its been on my mind quite a bit, maybe I'll make a post about it later.
