I linked the classic Hemingway six-word short story (which he probably didn't write by the way ) to give an idea of what I'm thinking of. So how about some 10 words or less short stories. I'll start:
Reached for the stars. Had even farther to fall.
His name is Tequila. And he likes those odds. haha totally not far fetched!A RED HOT RECIPE FOR RAMPAGING REVENGE
Now one man must face the entire Chicago Outfit, a group of hardened Mafia enforcers, a psychotic bookie, the most dangerous hitman on earth, and Detective Jacqueline Daniels...
Oh, there's no real finger pointing going on, more of a faulty syllogism meant to be more evocative than meaningful. Bad = cheap, bad people = cheap people, =>"Tonight I'm the worst" = tonight I'm drinking a lot of cheap tequila, or even tonight I'm so cheap, I'm not willing to buy even the cheapest tequila.
He said it was 2 inches and fluffy. I want it.
"It's called a dutch oven," he said as she cried.
I'm enjoying reading these. just remember: flash fiction isn't a form with any specific length requirements (not all publications and institutions consider it a form of its own to begin with), so they can exceed "Hemingway's" example by quite a lot. consider these Lydia Davis stories, for example. they're quite good, and longer. these are longer still. that's not to talk anyone out of the fortune cookie-sized stories, as those have a wisdom of their own, but adding some length could be very freeing too. a kind of freedom is, I think, what appeals to many about writing flash fiction.
Seen from a window, walks right past. It never lasts.
I might try to write something after I've had food, but I just wanted to say if anyone likes flash fiction Very Short Story on twitter is pretty cool.
