No primer (I should get some). I talked to some other people about maybe using clear lacquer, which might help keep moisture out but the lacquer will probably crack eventually. As long as it doesn't "rot" and fall apart I don't care too much if it swells a bit edit: It seems MDF might be slightly carcinogenic so I should definitely paint it to keep the formaldehyde in
Yeah, Don't breathe that stuff in. It's got all sorts of bad stuff in it. And the dust is very fine which helps it get everywhere. MDF doesn't sound like the best material choice. You should go with a solid wood that can resist rot. Cedar, redwood, walnut, cypress. Even a doug fir or eastern pine will do the trick if you coat it.
That's awesome. I want to one day try the beer born of this. What type of beer are you guys making?
We've mostly brewed ales and IPAs since they're the easiest, and some black lager types of beers (julöl, aka Swedish Christmas beer). We're aiming for a regular lager next time, since it's cold enough that we can build a thing that keeps the beer at 4°C on the balcony while it ferments (it's a brisk -15°C outside)
That is indeed "brisk." I'm sitting in a sushi restaurant and just noticed that they have Hitachino Nest White Ale on the menu. You should have seen my smile. Grinning like a kid on Christmas. I like some IPA's but find them less exciting than I did years ago. I used to love Sierra Nevada Pale Ale ten years ago and can't tell if I changed, the beer changed or both? Anyways, good luck with whatever you make and if you end up selling a bottle or two, let me know. I'm in.
OK, that's it, when we do the NYC Hubski meetup (how's your wife doing by the way?) can we please get sushi? nowaypablo ?
IIRC, briandmyers has some experience in homebrewing. RichardRubski too. I can't help much beyond that. Looks sweet and keep us posted on your progress. I always love to know what other Hubskiers are doing with their spare time.
