TO READ FOR NEXT WEEK:
&
Continue with Golem XIV by Stanislaw Lem
~
I have Hothouse in print but haven't had a chance to convert it to a pdf. It'll happen tomorrow, I swear. Hothouse was originally published in serial, and then awarded the Hugo as a whole which is totally cheating to get into the short story category. I'll only upload the first section that comes to a decent resolution rather than the whole 240-page book.
Golem XIV is also a bit longer than the other items we've been doing, and is also a lot to chew on, so we'll discuss that both this week and next.
DISCUSSION OF LAST WEEK'S READING:
The Longest Voyage by Poul Anderson
&
Golem XIV by Stanislaw Lem
Prompts for discussion
The Longest Voyage: an advanced civilization suddenly bestowing us with fantastic technology is a common trope in sci-fi. Here, being robbed of the "journey" to arrive at these discoveries on our own is presented as a great loss. What do you think of that perspective?
Golem XIV: We'll discuss it next week as well, but do you have any thoughts to share on Golem's philosophies so far?
And remember to vote for your favorites for next week
