A year or so ago, ecib was at my house. We were casually chatting when my daughter came into the room and mentioned that she had finished writing a song. She's fairly shy, so to my amazement, after only a little encouragement, she pulled out the ukulele and played us this little masterpiece. I know I'm her dad and all... but it was sweet and I couldn't help but love it. I had no idea she could sing as well as she did, much less construct lyrics and a melody and smash it together live. It was a delightful highlight to the evening.
It took me a year to get my act together well enough to mic her up and layer some harmonies on it. This is still a VERY rough mix - no judging my mixing skills please... but I had to share! thenewgreen and lil - I played some hockey with my daughter
I know a girl she's confident and sweet and kind to everyone she may meet She's true and honest and doesn't make anyone feel like they're less in all that you're going through and all that you need to do she's there for you I know this to be true and this is who this song is to Sister I love you so much I know you love me too That is what we're made of Love OH MY GOODNESS! This is SOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOD!!!! Her voice is like an angel. It's very good but not at all flashy or show-off-y. She has an honest voice. And how pretty are those lyrics? Your heart must be so full, Steve. What a gift she's given you and your whole family. My eyes welled up when she said "sister." Steve, you're doing a great job. Also, the mix is perfect. Those harmonies are lovely. If I had a badge, it would be given. This is phenomenal. I am going back for a third listen. I loved this. What an awesome melody too. This has potential. Many people will love to hear this. Share it far and wide. WOW!
Really awesome, steve and daughter of steve. The mix has this accidental raw perfection to it, too. One of the things I'm most impressed with is her remembering the song after a year. Did she hone it over that span of time, or was it recorded on the second or third time she performed it, a year after the debut?
Thanks for listening! the lyrics are the same - she wrote it all down in her notebook that first day. the melody has changed because she's getting older... those high notes aren't as easy as they were before. I think she has a pretty great ear, so many of those harmonies are just her experimenting with melodies over about 20 takes. As for the mix - it's pretty straight forward, a tiny bit of reverb and ambiance in garage band on three main vocal tracks, bouncing back and forth between which ones sounded better at different parts of the song.
