I've been revisiting a couple albums recently. Soundgarden's Superunknown is a big ol' ball of nostalgia for me, and it's easy to keep in regular rotation. Dan Deacon's Spiderman of the Rings is a favorite of mine from a few years back. Like much of his music, the whole album is pervaded by this manic, very pure-feeling energy. He's got some of the wildest, most raw electronic timbres and a bunch of goofy-ass lyrics. I like this album as the yang to the yin of his following album, Bromst, which is also worth checking out.
Right there with you on the “This is America” vid. Donald Glover went on an interview recently where he refused to explicitly say What It Meant. I really appreciated that too. Solid work, all around. And I bet Ron Howard made sure he even played a decent young Lando Calrissian. Hats off to Mr. Glover.
Listened to CJSW while working today. Always a great way to find some new tunes. Found a bunch of summer tunes:
Now this was an interesting mix of sounds and influences.
