Nearly 60 years later, prolific (and rather genius) aerospace engineer Burt Rutan designed and built the Rutan Model 202 Boomerang. I love unique designs like this.
Please tell me you know about the F-82 Twin Mustang.
I enjoy going down the rabbit hole of German World War Two aircraft.
To me, it seems like up to and shortly after WWII were probably the early days of aviation. I bet there's all sorts of weird designs out there though chances are not many of them ever went into full production. Could you imagine someone making a similar proposal to this today?
To no one's surprise, the advent of computers and computational analysis eliminated a lot of the obviously bad ideas. Kelly Johnson had a maxim that ugly planes were bad designs; what we see as "ugly" is nothing more than intuition. A number of German and English designers lacked this intuition.
Yikes. I had forgotten about that. I'm a fair-weather fan at best but what I recall from the era was that F1 had basically become a lawyerfest where dumb shit like this had become de rigeur and the fans were all WTF because (1) Schumacher won all the time (2) everything was boring AF (3) the only way anything got mixed up a little was when F1 gave out penalties like candy without explaining a single goddamn thing. And then when the 2008 crisis hit and everyone lost money and Toyota and Honda and BMW all bailed they were all "hey let's change shit up a lot" and that kind of killed a few things. But I mean they're so far removed from "cars" at this point that I have a real hard time caring.
It's why I never bought into the "Mark Webber is unlucky" meme. Sure, he got hit by a car at his own charity bike race. But Webber walked away in '99. That's insane. Poor bastards. Withdrew their name, then Brawn went on to dominate that year. They spent a shit load of money to suck. IIRC, over a fucking billion dollars in the project's life time. Tumbled down the ranks the whole time. Google says they spent at least $400,000,000 in 2008. Only came in 5th. I used to wake up at 3am to watch F1. Now I might be bothered to watch the 24 hours. This year, all I've done is watch the live timing updates from Indy. Crapped out on even that when Fernando did likewise. Just picked a PS3, though. You better believe I'm driving a VW Bus around the Ring later tonight.Yikes. I had forgotten about that.

I've never played any Wipeout. Will probably give it a shot, though, since you like it so much. I'm picturing podracer. We're waffling between a ps4 and a switch as our next console purchase. Work has been shit lately, but that comes with lots of OT. ________________ We have to unlock Nordschleife in this game. But first we have to unlock the event that unlocks the map. Shit.
