I didn't know we didn't have such laws until this week. But I don't think it matters - there is not much political power money can buy. The way our government is set up is in such a way that collaborating and making compromises is essential to getting anything done. Coalitions are a core function of our politics. Ever since the large CDA (centralist Christian democrats) party declined in the mid-2000s, we've had a politically splintered electorate. I mean, look at the projected seats graph in there. The two biggest parties in the polls right now are hovering between 20 and 30 seats in the Parliament, out of 150. Forming a coalition is going to be quite a problem because a majority of 76 seats are needed. On top of that, all parties have already said that they won't form a coalition with Wilders because of his parties complete inability to work together. Even if he does get way more seats than expected (and I am worrying about that), he'll still have a hard time getting in a position of governing.
Crap. Our great wealth may be the end of us. Looks like there may be too many millionaires and billionaires sitting around the house with nothing else to do but go out and prepare themselves for battle with the "others" that exist in the world in which they are no longer actually needed or an integral part of. Too many of our most wealthy citizens are the global version of that crotchety old dude at the end of the street that waits in ready at his window, ready to jump out and chase away those filthy little children that dare walk on his lawn. These people need to get a life and interact with and help real people.
If I'm criticizing rural America's lack of exposure to non-whites as a major contributor to xenophobia, I'm definitely calling out the elites for the issue(s) you've raised, and I'm looking in the mirror. I'm poor af, but I've managed to become somewhat out of touch with everyman. I still think people have had the wool pulled over their eyes, the trick is finding a way to point it out without upsetting the hornet's nest. Edit: oh, I know, I'll call them "sheeple" and yell as loud as I can without suggesting any reasonable course of action
