— President-elect Donald Trump, in a tweet, Nov. 27
I like the Vox headline better: "Donald Trump is now questioning the legitimacy of the election he won."
Donald Trump, and arguably a large segment of his supporters, don't give a flying fuck that there's no evidence to support his claim. In this institutional landscape, the only thing that will imperil Trump is him losing his "popular" appeal, gained through bullying and strongman signaling. It's all posturing from here on out. There is quite literally no cost to Trump tweeting this. That said, I appreciate giving this article my meager page views.
It's pretty simple, they are fairly easy to clear, and difficult to abuse in scale. They do exist, but investigations reveal that their numbers are comparably small, like hundreds in races with millions of votes. Simple hacking is a far greater threat, because you need far fewer people to get a much more significant effect.
