Donald Trump, and arguably a large segment of his supporters, don't give a flying fuck that there's no evidence to support his claim. In this institutional landscape, the only thing that will imperil Trump is him losing his "popular" appeal, gained through bullying and strongman signaling. It's all posturing from here on out.

There is quite literally no cost to Trump tweeting this. That said, I appreciate giving this article my meager page views.

At best, him losing "popular" appeal means that we are in for four years of this. I imagine that all the while the media will be debating whether or not his actions are just crazy, or part of a larger strategy, which is beside the point.

I think Trump is completely ok with his supporters thinking he's lying, as long as he makes them feel like everybody else is lying too. That's the field he wants to play ball on.
