"Remember, politics aside, no matter the outcome we're all neighbors. That's something worth holding onto." I've been ruminating on just this thing all week. I don't give a damn who wins as long as Chloe Eudaly beats Steve Novice for city council. I've talked at least 4 people into voting for her (maybe as many as a dozen). It's a close race and Steve has spent ten times the money Chloe has. If I ever ran for office I'd shake the hand of every damn bartender and barista in the city and give them a campaign T-shirt. I liked that Chloe used comic as a campaign device.
This shit is where it matters. Your city. Your county. Your school district's spending desires. Your state reps. Your US congress members. Yep... the president matters... but everybody can take a deep breath... there are checks and balances. We'll be ok. Nothing felt quite so good as researching my US House candidates and voting for the one that resonated with me the clearest. She won't win, but damn if I wasn't really impressed with her.
I'm not sure that I agree with that. Checks and balances have been undone. They can evaporate really fast, actually. Checks and balances serve well when they are exerting gradual pressure and maintain a consensus. They do not fare well against an onslaught.but everybody can take a deep breath... there are checks and balances. We'll be ok.
