A memoir of Little League and pornography from the creator of Sh*t My Dad Says
I too have wondered about kids today and their access to porn. It was so difficult to get as a kid and today kids can get whatever they want in any format. Sounds like a sociology study waiting to be done.
I might need to get that book. Beautifully written, rings true. I remember when my dad found my porn. His advice: "If you want to look at that, put it somewhere where your mother can't find it." Not quite as cool as the dad in the story, but as a 13 year-old I thought my dad was pretty damn cool at that moment.

You mean back in the day when you were a homeless man, living in a gully hording porn?
I must have been about 10 years old when me and two other boys hit the porn jackpot in a dumpster. We took our loot out to an old rail road bridge that was little traveled (today it's the walking path in Rochester abutting dinosaur hill nature preserve, a few of you might know it). We were sifting through our loot when one kid got spooked by the whole deal, he said something along the lines of "Guys, we really shouldn't be looking at this stuff, it's wrong." He then hefted the whole bag of porn off the bridge into paint creek. We gave him a pretty good beating, the whole collection was lost.

Great read. That books looks just in time for easy summer reading at the beach.

Great read, I really enjoyed this. This brought back so many memories of bing a 12 year old boy. Perfectly written imo.
At the time, porn magazines were like Lamborghinis: You knew they existed, and though you'd never seen one in person, you were sure you'd have one when you got older.

This did bring back a lot of 12 year old memories. Specifically, I had a brief, but intense, kleptomania phase at that age. My favorite thing to steal was porn mags. Back in '94 they used to have Hustler, Penthouse, Playboy, et al on the magazine rack at BN, not behind the counter as it subsequently became. My friends would always be the lookout (I guess I was the Michael character) while I stuffed magazines inside my jacket. We would usually look at them once then abandon them in the woods, because we were all too scared to keep porn mags in our bedroom. But holy shit did we learn a lot, sick shit that a 12 year old mind isn't quite equipped to process; it takes a real cynic to appreciate some of the odd bondage found in Hustler, not a naive tween. Oh Larry Flynt, what an education you gave me.

I never had the Klepto phase but the porn phase was true enough. We relied on my dad's stash and occasionally we'd find some of my uncles. When those two wells went dry... well, necessity is the mother of invention

It's now the stuff of legend. Whenever my brother and I get together and have too many drinks the talk always shifts to In The Bushes. We proudly recount our venture in to the smut publication business.
