I haven't seen it for years so I thought I'd go through a re-watch to get myself in the spirit. It's quite dated but I'm enjoying it all over again and some of it is just so good (I have to admit I'm a fan of David Lynch.)
Is this just another money-grabbing Status Quo re-union tour or do you think it'll be worthwhile?
I saw the entire first series locked (from hurricane Ike) in a cinema in Cuba, each episode back-to-back. The cinema was red velvet. We had sleeping bags. Our food (rice and beans) was brought in by kitchen staff in full-body waterproofs. After the storm had passed we went outside and none of the palm trees were left standing. I love Twin Peaks.
Wow what an experience. A red velvet cinema; I cant imagine a more appropriate place to watch it, except maybe a hunting lodge.
I've only recently started watching the original. I'm in the beginning of season two, and I have to say that I'm absolutely hooked. I have a totally new respect for Kyle MacLaughlin. I actually disagree that it doesn't stand up to modern TV. I think it's just as good or better than a lot of the current serial style shows. The soap opera parody style gives a hilarious dimension to an otherwise super depressing story arc.
*crickets* OK I'll start. lol you old! Audrey Horne stole my juvenile heart. This is an old show so I guess most people haven't seen it and it doesn't stand up to modern TV standards, but at the time it was truly groundbreaking TV. It laid the foundation for later show like the X-Files and Lost to build on. Lynch brings his powers of evoking a dream state in mundane, every day situations with bizarre imagery and twists, playfully idiotic dialogue, deeply layered characters and an indistinct and unguessable meandering plot-line.
I'm a big fan of Twin Peaks as is evidenced by my hubskiing: I'm not sure if I'm excited, I'm not sure what could be added? I loved the original so much and it has such a special place in my history. The show was a huge part of the friendship my wife and I forged with cW and his wife. I guess if we could all get together and watch the new series, with pie, cigarettes and coffee... I'd likely enjoy it. Oh, and who you calling old!
Well I fully thought I was going to be in a conversation with myself... I am decidedly looking forward to it, and a big part of that is that Lynch has chosen to return to it. Maybe he just wants to return to TV; I read that Mulholland Drive was originally going to be a TV series after all. Maybe Twin Peaks is just a relatively easy way for him to get a chance to work in the medium again, but I'm hoping it's because he's drawn to the story, the characters and environment and wants to explore more ideas there.
Did you ever pluck up courage to enter your local beauty pageant? If you look at IMDB it looks like Sherilyn Fenn is going to be heavily involved in season 3. Good for us Audrey fans.! It's weird I guess those billed with multiple episodes are signed up already and the rest of the characters billed for only 1 are still negotiating.
Yes, tastes do change. I still enjoy most of his work... even when i can't understand it ;) I think as I've grown older I've become even more drawn to abstraction. I like (for want of a better word) regular movies, but something like Lost Highway or Inland Empire just set my brain ablaze.
