I'm enjoying a bit of Beans on Toast. He's a British (I think) Folk Punk singer. He seems to be a smart man of good character and I really enjoy his style. I don't have any of his albums yet, but I think I'll work on changing that. The last Andrew Jackson Jihad album I've got is very well put together. Though I have to admit the majority of the songs are going completely over my head. I also just put Ra Ra Riot's album "Beta Love" on my phone after putting it off for forever. I've listened to it all the way through three days in a row now. I'm glad I did it.
Cat Stevens Trouble is my jam right now You start listening to one song on your phone and you start listening to that artist. I've sent Oh Very Young to 18 year old matches on Tinder because I'm a dick Father and Son The First Cut is the Deepest Is Cat Stevens an easy listening joke like Gordon Lightfoot? I don't care. Here's Elliott Smith covering Trouble
I'd say that he isn't an easy listening joke but he has plenty of pop appeal. The material from the beginning of his career is pretty forgettable. He was pop folk, had some hits and got a lot of representation from his label as a guy who was going to go somewhere. He then got tuberculosis and almost died. The next two albums after he recovered were the ones that he is remembered for. Almost all the songs you posted are from those albums. Trouble is about battling TB. He lost a most the pop star patina and got to join the heavy singer song writer cannon. Don't know how many albums he made between TB and becoming a Muslim but after he became a Muslim he didn't release anything for a long time. Started putting out albums after the break which are pretty forgettable. Have you seen Harold and Maude? The soundtrack is all his stuff, it's a great film which his music complements nicely.
The 15th international Tchaikovsky Competition is being broadcast live for FREE on Medici.tv all weekend, and you can watch and listen to earlier rounds on replay (also for free). totally worth checking out, even if you're just a casual classical music fan.
I've been listening to Graceland by Paul Simon. Putting aside the controversy of Simon working in South Africa during Apartheid, the album is fantastic, and the story behind it is rather interesting as well. Simon was inspired by a couple of bootleg tapes of African artists he came across, while at the same time, the African musicians he was playing with were trying to mimic him and Western players they knew. The result is a rather unique fusion sound. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xrwtzk_paul-simon-graceland-1986-full-album_music
These guys bring me back to my Varsity days, sitting in the sun after first year exams were done, dragging a couch to the roof and just getting lost in the Aotearoa sky.
And this chap. A lot of his stuff is.. Good. It's all grown on me over the past couple of weeks. And this is my current strutting to work song. A bit generic and poppy but hey.
Been a rough week and this one's shaping up to be even rougher, so I've turned to stuff that always perks me up. Can't go wrong with some good ol' Tool - The Patient. I also really like this remix from the final battle of Cave Story, by Nutritious from OCRemix: The Unbroken.
I have been enjoying this playlist of songs inspired by Hannibal. It's really soothing during a long night alone in the bakery. http://8tracks.com/haliameguid/a-little-meat-music
