Fine ... but if our Universe/Cosmos is to eventually stop expanding and then contract ... should it not be slowing down ... as opposed to accelerating?

Well, it does seem easier (not to mention less potentially dangerous) to just fly some type of shade out into space and block out some of the sunlight (generating useful power as an additional benefit).
